The Senior Specialist - Data Privacy will support the management of the global privacy program and within the Global Privacy Office to assist with Privacy and AI compliance and risk management efforts, to ensure the effective implementation of program initiatives and controls related to compliance with privacy and AI laws as well as with applicable WSP policies. The position will support Director of Global Privacy and report into India Head of Legal, Compliance & Ethics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Advise on data processing agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to ensure compliance with data protection requirements.
Assist with data mapping related tasks, including by liaising with relevant stakeholders and maintaining processing activities inventory in our data mapping management tool.
Conduct privacy impact assessments to identify and mitigate potential privacy risks and compliance issues.
Review AI risk assessments and support the Global Privacy Office with respect to AI risk related tasks
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Legal, IT, Information Security, Procurement and Ethics & Compliance, to ensure a holistic approach to data protection and privacy.
Assist in the development of comprehensive training programs on data protection compliance and best practices for employees at all levels of the organization.
Assist with due diligence to evaluate the privacy programs and risks of target companies in the context of mergers and acquisitions.
Monitor changes in data protection and AI laws and regulations, assess their impact on the organization.
Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in data protection and privacy law.
Oversee intranet site and document repository for the Global Privacy Office.
Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified to practice law
Certified Information Privacy Professional (such as a CIPP/E designation) an asset
3-5 years of experience practicing and/or working knowledge of data protection law.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply legislation and government regulations guiding privacy and data protection applicable to a global organization, such as the GDPR.
Desire to continuously learn and stay updated with the latest developments in privacy, technology, and AI law.
Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess complex legal issues and provide practical, business-oriented solutions.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Interest in technology and AI, and a keen understanding of how these fields impact the legal ecosystem.
Experience advising multinational corporations on global data protection compliance an asset.
