WSP is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and delivery-oriented candidate who has practical experience with GIS and a profound interest in GIS technologies and updates. The Assistant Consultant GIS will assist with data management and mapping activities related to Contanimnated lands, Environmental Planning, Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment, Archaeology, Heritage, Indigenous Relations and other environmental investigations projects. Outputs and maps would be based on input and requests from the Archaeology and Heritage team in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada. All deliverables produced shall comply with WSP Canada standards and procedures, as well as provincial regulations, standards and guidelines .
Responsibilities
The role would involve:
Perform GIS mapping, database development and qualitative/quantitative analysis as a member of a national remediation program management team. Working in various fields including archaeology, geotechnical engineering, mining, and biological environmental sciences.
Compile, manipulate, and refine geographic data from a variety of sources including, field collection, satellite/aerial imagery, public domain data, and existing maps. Youll be providing technical 2D maps, figures, charts and presentation posters to support proposals and reports, on a wide variety of projects collaborating with colleagues around the country
Produce detailed, high-quality cartographic products (digital and hardcopy) and accompanying reports in accordance with technical guidelines and client needs. Responsible for quality assurance and control with adherence to global company standards, processes, and best practices
Perform regular quality control checks of spatial and non-spatial datasets to ensure data integrity.
Collaborate with team members on project tasks related to GIS, database design and management, and data visualization.
Customize GIS workflow and software programs for data collection, engineering, and environmental applications.
Demonstrated experience with creating ESRI s SaaS solutions for example: Web Apps, Survey123 forms, ArcGIS StoryMaps, Experience builder etc.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Key Competencies / Skills:
Mandatory Skills
Mandatory - Strong spoken, written and verbal communication skills of French and English languages with B1/ B2 Level.
3 to 4 years of relevant post-education experience.
Experience in industry sectors and their sub-sectors like Earth and Environment, Infrastructure, Utility etc. is added advantage.
Proficiency using ESRI ArcGIS software, Experience with AGOL, data visualization, and raster manipulation.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office, specifically with excel, word, power point. MS 365 platform is added advantage.
Experience in producing high-quality digital and hardcopy maps and project graphics.
Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
At least two years of relevant experience with Geographic Information Systems and particularly ESRI products (ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS 10.X, and extensions, ArcGIS Online/Portal/WebApps) and basic GIS and CAD Data Formats
Strong cartographic skills including the ability to adhere to standards and communicate highly complex information in an accessible and attractive manner
Demonstrated experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced deadline and deliverable oriented setting
Demonstrated experience working with, organizing, analyzing, and mapping field-collected data
Proven ability to document and communicate work in a professional manner
Working experience developing and implementing GIS solutions especially in the areas of productivity, QA/QC, mobile data capture, geospatial analysis, spatial ETL and workflow automation would be an asset
WSP is future focused, any learning or experience with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is not mandatory but will be welcomed with both arms
Qualifications
