IB MYP DP Visual Arts Teacher

REPORTING TO: Head of the Department, Arts
COLLABORATES WITH: Art(s) department, fellow grade level teachers, dorm staff, fellow homeroom advisors, drama and music department.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Deliver the IB MYP / DP Visual Arts curriculum with consistency and excellence.
Design immersive learning experiences that incorporate outdoor activities and fieldwork, leveraging Woodstock Schools facilities, our Indian cultural context, and the unique Himalayan environment.
Monitor student progress and promote a holistic approach to the Arts as you collaborate with Middle Years /Upper Years teachers to deliver Woodstock Schools interdisciplinary Art and Design Curriculum
Assess student progress using effective evaluation methods in both pastoral and professional ways, to Exemplify Woodstock Schools Desired Learning Outcomes by teaching in a way which Elicits Greatness and make decisions that align with our Guiding Principle

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach approximately 27 periods per 6-day cycle
Ability and willingness to teach online and/or in a hybrid context, as necessary
Develop, maintain, and continuously update existing unit plans and related documents
Work collaboratively with members of the department and positively contribute to departmental tasks, such as policies, common assessments, instructional practices, grading practice
Actively guide students through their MYP / DP studies in an inquiry based model of learning.
Embrace the department focus on student-centered learning, critical thinking and creativity
Encourage all students to be actively engaged in their own learning and in reviewing their progress against targets
Encourage and foster intellectual curiosity
Serve in a pastoral support capacity for student advisees, and as the point of contact between home, dorms, and school
Take into account the differing ability levels of students and differentiate work accordingly
Engage students in art history and art analysis through various tools like slideshows and discussions
Monitor student development by maintaining regular assessment and progress reports in line with departmental and school policy

Set appropriate tasks and challenges according to the published academic timetable, and ensure that work is regularly evaluated with constructive feedback
Maintain and update existing unit plans, lesson plans and curriculum maps so they are in alignment with the International Baccalaureates Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme.

Positively contribute to departmental work such as policies, common assessments, instructional practices, grading practices, etc.
Put up at least two exhibitions every year and assist in the common exhibitions.
Actively initiate and participate in inviting artists and conducting workshops
Collate, collect and maintain art materials for the designed units and lessons in each term
Supervise study halls and student social activities during evenings and weekends
Organize and run at least one extra - curricular enrichment activity
Chaperone students during visual art related field trips
Chaperone students during visual art related community development projects

Teachers at Woodstock School are expected to:
Chaperone student travel at the end or beginning of each semester
Participate in orientation and professional development days at the beginning and end of each semester
Chaperone or lead field trips during Activity Week
Plan and provide teaching and learning classes and activities appropriate to the needs of our international student body and in conformity with the Woodstock School curriculum, preferred teaching strategies, and
classroom environment guidelines
Contribute to the enrichment activities that are an essential part of learning in an international boarding school
Accept and support Woodstock Schools inclusive Religious Life Policy
Contribute to school committees and staff meetings
Participate in the life and work of the Woodstock School community
Participate in annual evaluation and professional growth, taking full advantage of professional development opportunities

SKILLS REQUIRED:
Experience with Middle Years and Upper Years (MYP, IGCSE, DP etc.).
Excellent drawing skills, especially in observation drawings (still life, portraits and landscape)
Good technical skills in at least two different mediums (painting, sculpture, computer graphics and/or design)
Ability to work with unconventional materials
Store management
Putting up exhibitions and active participation in all the other art activities
Skills to work with larger group (15 -20) students
Good knowledge of elements and principles of art
A record of successful engagement with students in distance learning and hybrid learning contexts.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
A Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate discipline and/or in Education
University level understanding of all content to be taught
A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching the IB curriculum, preferred
Fluency and accuracy in written and spoken English
Good awareness of art history and local culture

At least 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject areas
Early years experience preferred
Independent study supervision as needed within a full load
Computer skills at a level that permits the creative and effective use of technology in the classroom
Proven ability to work effectively in a team, preferably involving both national and international staff
