Assistant Manager - Linen Room

Role & responsibilities

• Oversee the hospitals linen inventory, ensuring the availability of required linen types (e.g., bed sheets, towels, surgical drapes, patient gowns, etc.).
• Monitor the usage of linen across departments and ensure appropriate distribution to patient rooms, operating rooms, staff areas, and other hospital zones.
• Track and maintain accurate records of linen stock, including receiving, issuing, and the frequency of linen replacement.
• Supervise daily laundry operations to ensure the cleaning, sterilization, and proper storage of all linen.
• Ensure that linen is laundered using appropriate cleaning agents, methods, and equipment while adhering to infection control protocols.
• Collaborate with the laundry team to ensure all items are cleaned to hospital standards and ready for use without delays.
• Maintain stock levels of linens, ensuring adequate supplies are available at all times, without overstocking.
• Monitor linen usage and identify any excessive wear and tear or loss of items, and adjust purchasing or usage practices accordingly.
• Conduct regular inventories, check for any damages, and arrange for replacements or repairs of linens as needed.
• Regularly inspect linen for cleanliness, quality, and condition to ensure that hospital standards are maintained.
• Develop and enforce quality control procedures to assess linen cleanliness, hygiene, and adherence to hospital infection prevention protocols.
• Work with the infection control team to ensure linens are sanitized properly to prevent the spread of infections.
• Supervise the linen team and laundry staff, ensuring proper training in handling, cleaning, and storage procedures.
• Ensure adherence to hospital policies and government regulations related to linen management, infection control, and health and safety.
• Ensure compliance with hospital infection control and safety protocols, including guidelines for handling contaminated or soiled linen.
• Monitor and ensure proper storage of clean linen, preventing contamination and damage.
• Ensure safe and hygienic practices for the transportation and handling of linen, especially from patient rooms, surgery areas, and laundry.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Knowledge of hospital infection control procedures and linen management standards.
• Ability to manage a team and coordinate with multiple departments.
• Attention to detail to maintain high standards of cleanliness and quality.
• Knowledge of linen types, fabric care, and laundering techniques.
• Experience in budgeting, cost control, and inventory management.
• Good communication skills to interact with hospital staff, vendors, and external suppliers.
• Ability to handle emergencies and adjust to fluctuating linen needs (e.g., during high patient volumes).
