Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Big Cartel Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in e-commerce development with a specialization in Big Cartel platform customization and integration. This role requires both front-end and back-end development skills, including creating seamless shopping experiences, optimizing user interfaces, and ensuring high-performance functionality. You will collaborate closely with designers, marketers, and other developers to deliver customized solutions that enhance our clients' online stores and drive customer engagement.

Your Role and Responsibilities

Develop and Customize Big Cartel Stores : Create and modify templates, themes, and plugins on the Big Cartel platform to align with brand identity and specific business requirements.

Collaborate with Design and Marketing Teams : Work closely with UI/UX designers and marketing teams to ensure that the storefront design meets visual and functional standards.

Optimize Store Performance : Enhance the speed, responsiveness, and user experience of Big Cartel stores through code optimization, testing, and troubleshooting.

Integrate Third-Party Services : Set up and manage integrations with payment processors, analytics tools, email marketing, and other e-commerce platforms.

Maintain Code Quality and Standards : Adhere to best practices in coding, testing, and documentation to deliver maintainable and scalable solutions.

Implement SEO and Analytics : Optimize store structure for search engine visibility, and configure analytics to monitor site performance and customer behavior.

Support Ongoing Development and Maintenance : Provide technical support and updates to existing Big Cartel stores, including troubleshooting issues and implementing upgrades as needed.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Proficiency in Big Cartel Development : Advanced knowledge of Big Cartel's API, platform structure, and best practices for customization.

Front-End Development Skills : Expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design principles to create visually appealing, user-friendly interfaces.

Back-End Development Knowledge : Familiarity with server-side scripting and databases (particularly MySQL and PostgreSQL) for more complex integrations and custom features.

Experience with E-commerce Integrations : Proven ability to integrate and troubleshoot third-party services, including payment gateways, CRMs, and email marketing tools.

Strong Analytical Skills : Ability to analyze site metrics and performance data, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.

Version Control and Collaboration Tools : Experience with Git, GitHub, or similar tools for version control, and project management tools like Trello, Asana, or Jira.

Problem Solving and Attention to Detail : Strong troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to problem resolution and commitment to code quality.

Qualification & Experience Required

Education : Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications in web or e-commerce development are a plus.

Experience : Minimum of 3 years in web development with at least 1-2 years specializing in Big Cartel or similar e-commerce platforms.

Portfolio : Demonstrable experience with live Big Cartel projects and/or a portfolio showcasing relevant e-commerce development projects.

Additional Skills : Familiarity with other e-commerce platforms such as Shopify or WooCommerce is advantageous but not essential.
