Head of Engineering

Job Description: Head of Engineering - Welspun GCC

Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Leader to join Welspun GCC. This role will lead our engineering team in the development, scaling, and performance optimization of enterprise B2B SAAS products. You will play a pivotal role in defining product strategy, ensuring technical excellence, and fostering a high-performing engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Team Management:

• Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team in the development, testing, and maintenance of B2B SAAS products.
• Provide direction, feedback, and career growth opportunities for engineers, ensuring alignment with business and technical goals.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the engineering team.

2. Product Strategy & Development:

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to define product roadmaps and prioritize features based on business and customer needs.
• Oversee the full product development lifecycle, from ideation and design to testing and deployment.
• Ensure timely, high-quality product releases aligned with strategic company goals.

3. Architecture & Design:

• Lead the architecture and design of scalable, high-performance SAAS products capable of handling large user bases and complex enterprise requirements.
• Drive the adoption of modern architectural patterns (e.g., microservices, serverless, event-driven design) for scalability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization.
• Provide thought leadership on software stack structuring, database selection, and integration layers to optimize system performance.

4. Product Performance & Scalability:

• Champion a focus on product performance, ensuring systems handle growth, high traffic, and complex workloads while maintaining speed, stability, and user experience.
• Monitor and optimize production environments, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
• Establish performance benchmarks and KPIs to ensure the team meets or exceeds performance goals.
• Implement best practices for load testing, stress testing, and monitoring to ensure high availability and low latency.

5. Cross-functional Collaboration:

• Partner with product, marketing, and operations teams to ensure successful product and feature deliveries.
• Facilitate effective communication across teams, aligning engineering efforts with business objectives and customer needs.

6. Technical Leadership:

• Provide technical guidance and leadership on architecture, design decisions, and problem-solving across the team.
• Evaluate and adopt new technologies and development methodologies to drive product innovation and efficiency.
• Ensure adherence to best practices in code quality, testing, security, and CI/CD pipelines.

7. Metrics & Reporting:

• Define and track key engineering metrics (e.g., velocity, code quality, release cycles, operational efficiency).
• Present technical updates and insights to senior leadership and other stakeholders.

8. Agile & Process Improvement:

• Champion agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and ensure best practices in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Continuously refine engineering processes to improve efficiency, productivity, and quality.

Qualifications:

Experience:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership/management role within a B2B SAAS environment.
• Proven experience managing large-scale, cloud-based SAAS products (AWS, Azure, etc.).
• Experience with enterprise applications, microservices architecture, and API development.

Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Java/ Python/ Node.js) and front-end frameworks like React.
• Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and high-availability solutions.
• Expertise in scalable, high-performance architecture design focused on system reliability and user experience.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and automation practices.
• Solid knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases and caching systems.
• Experience in performance optimization techniques and tools for system monitoring, testing, and tuning.

Leadership Skills:

• Proven experience leading and mentoring high-performance engineering teams.
• Strong decision-making skills with the ability to balance business needs and technical constraints.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Education:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Additional Skills/Certifications:

• Agile/Scrum certification (e.g., CSM, PMP) is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of security best practices for SAAS applications.
• Familiarity with product management and UX/UI design principles.
