Job Description

Job Summary:

The Section Head - Transmission and Distribution is responsible for planning, managing, and ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and development of the transmission and distribution network. The role requires leadership in ensuring reliability, safety, and efficiency while meeting regulatory compliance and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Network Operations and Maintenance:

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) transmission lines, substations, and distribution networks.
  • Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to ensure network reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in transmission and distribution systems promptly.

2. Planning and Development:

  • Collaborate with planning teams to design and upgrade transmission and distribution infrastructure.
  • Ensure the integration of renewable energy sources and new technologies into the grid.
  • Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements to enhance capacity and efficiency.

3. Team Leadership and Management:

  • Lead and supervise engineers, technicians, and field staff involved in T&D operations.
  • Develop training programs to build technical and operational capabilities within the team.
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

4. Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry codes (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NERC).
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety awareness within the section.

5. Stakeholder Coordination:

  • Liaise with internal departments, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Manage contracts and service agreements with external vendors and consultants.
  • Address customer issues related to the T&D network and ensure timely resolutions.

6. Budgeting and Resource Management:

  • Prepare and manage the section's operational and capital budgets.
  • Optimize resource allocation for maintenance, upgrades, and projects.
  • Ensure cost-effective procurement of materials, equipment, and services.

7. Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for network reliability, losses, and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare periodic reports for senior management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations.

8. Emergency Response and Crisis Management:

  • Develop contingency plans for network disruptions and coordinate timely restoration efforts.
  • Lead the team during emergencies such as outages, storms, or equipment failures.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum 10–12 years of experience in transmission and distribution, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or managerial role.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of transmission and distribution systems, grid operations, and power system analysis.
  • Expertise in high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) equipment, protection systems, and SCADA systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and safety standards related to T&D operations.
  • Proficient in using power system modeling and maintenance software.
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.

Working Conditions:
