Head of Engineering - Technology (Product Development & Engineering Excellence)

- The objective of the client is to build Public Digital Infrastructure for Banking using blockchain and other emerging technologies leveraging the network of members to enable high volume and cost- effective financial transactions.

- Our client is looking at Head of Engineering to lead the product development and engineering excellence.

- This leadership role is crucial for driving innovation, scaling our fintech products, and mentoring a high-performing engineering team.

- The ideal candidate has 14+ years of experience with deep expertise in Java-based open-source technologies, scalable architectures.

- The incumbent will be part of the founding team and responsible for holistic integrity and functionality of technical solutions and system products.

Key Responsibilities:

Technology Leadership:

- Lead the design and development of scalable, resilient, and secure fintech platforms to support rapid growth.

- Identify and adopt the latest emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to maintain a competitive edge.

Product Development & Innovation:

- Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle of fintech products, from concept to launch.

- Ensure the design and development of scalable microservices-based architectures.

- Drive API-first development and support integrations with partners.

- Improve performance, scalability, and security of the platform to handle large-scale transaction loads.

Team Mentorship & Talent Development:

- Build, nurture, and mentor a team of engineering managers, architects, and developers.

- Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and accountability.

- Lead by example with a hands-on technical approach to problem-solving and architecture discussions.

- Ensure cross-functional collaboration across engineering, product, and business teams.

Engineering Best Practices & Governance:

- Implement best practices for CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile development.

- Drive adherence to software engineering best practices including code reviews, design patterns, and clean coding standards.

- Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and regulatory standards (e.g DPDP, ISO 27001) essential for fintech.

Required Skills & Experience:

Experience:

- 14+ years of experience in software development, engineering leadership, and strategic technology roles.

- Strong exposure to Fintech, BFSI, or Payment Systems domains is preferred.

- Experience in building and scaling customer-facing B2B or B2C products with high concurrency.

Technical Skills:

- Programming: Expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and related frameworks is must. Experience in technologies like React.js and Node.js is preferred.

- Open-Source Technologies: Exposure to open-source libraries, tools, and platforms like Kafka, Elasticsearch, Redis, Apache Camel, RabbitMQ, etc.

- Cloud & DevOps: Hands-on experience with AWS/GCP/Azure, Kubernetes, and Docker.

- Architecture: Deep experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.

- Database Systems: Strong knowledge of RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis) databases.

- CI/CD & Automation: Experience with tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, and IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

- Security & Compliance: Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements like DPDP, ISO 27001.

Leadership & Soft Skills:

- Proven experience as a Head of Technology, VP of Engineering, or Director of Engineering.

- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and foster a culture of growth and accountability.

- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to align technology goals with business strategy.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
