Senior Data Governance Engineer - SQL/Python (5-9 yrs)

Job Summary :

The Senior Data Governance Engineer will play a critical role in establishing and maintaining a robust data governance framework within W Beyond and for our clients.

This position requires a strong technical foundation, a deep understanding of data management principles, and experience with industry-leading data governance tools.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on engineer with the ability to design, develop, and implement data governance solutions that address complex business challenges.

Key Responsibilities :

Data Governance Framework Development & Implementation :

- Lead the design, development, and implementation of data governance policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry best practices (e., DAMA, Data Governance Institute).

- Develop and maintain data governance documentation, including data dictionaries, data lineage, data quality rules, and compliance documentation.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e., data engineering, data science, business analysts) to integrate data governance principles into data lifecycle processes.

Data Catalog Engineering :

- Design and develop advanced data catalog solutions using Alation, including data profiling, data classification, and data lineage mapping.

- Automate data catalog ingestion and maintenance processes.

- Enhance data catalog usability and discoverability through advanced search, filtering, and visualization capabilities.

Data Quality Engineering :

- Develop and implement data quality rules and monitoring frameworks.

- Investigate and resolve data quality issues using data profiling, root cause analysis, and data remediation techniques.

- Automate data quality checks and generate reports on data quality performance.

Data Privacy & Compliance :

- Conduct data privacy impact assessments (DPIAs) and ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e., GDPR, CCPA, etc.)

- Implement data privacy controls and data masking techniques to protect sensitive data.

- Assist with data subject requests (DSRs) and other privacy-related inquiries.

Data Lineage & Impact Analysis :

- Develop and maintain comprehensive data lineage maps across various data sources and systems.

- Perform impact analysis to assess the potential downstream effects of data changes.

- Utilize data lineage information to improve data quality, enhance data security, and support regulatory compliance.

Technical Expertise :

- Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and other scripting languages.

- Experience with data integration tools (e., ETL tools, data pipelines).

- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e., AWS, Azure, GCP).

- Experience with data visualization and reporting tools (e., Tableau, Power BI).

Qualifications :

Essential :

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

- 5+ years of experience in data governance, data engineering, or a related field.

- Proven experience in implementing and managing data governance solutions.

- Strong technical skills in SQL, Python, and other scripting languages.

- Experience with data cataloging tools, preferably Alation.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable :

- Experience with data privacy regulations (e., GDPR, CCPA).

- Knowledge of data modeling techniques (e., dimensional modeling, data warehousing).

- Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.

- Industry certifications related to data governance or data management
