Job Description

Job Overview:

The Shift Officer in the Production Department is responsible for overseeing and managing the production process during their assigned shift. This includes ensuring that production targets are met, maintaining safety standards, managing the production team, and resolving any operational issues. The Shift Officer ensures smooth operations, quality control, and adherence to production schedules in line with the companys goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shift Management:
    • Supervise and manage the production team during the assigned shift.
    • Ensure the production process runs efficiently and smoothly, meeting established production goals and deadlines.
    • Allocate tasks to operators and ensure timely completion of work.
  • Production Monitoring:
    • Monitor the performance of machinery and production lines, ensuring that all equipment is functioning optimally.
    • Track production output, identify bottlenecks, and make necessary adjustments to maintain workflow.
    • Ensure product quality is maintained according to company standards and specifications.
  • Quality Control:
    • Conduct routine checks and inspections of finished products to ensure quality standards are met.
    • Address any quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions when necessary.
    • Coordinate with the Quality Control (QC) team to maintain consistent product quality.
  • Team Supervision & Support:
    • Supervise, guide, and motivate team members, ensuring they adhere to company policies, work procedures, and safety protocols.
    • Provide training and support to new employees, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
    • Manage employee attendance, work schedules, and shift rotations.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Enforce safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment for all production staff.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections, identify hazards, and report incidents.
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Problem Resolution:
    • Act as the first point of contact for troubleshooting any issues during the shift, whether related to equipment malfunctions, quality concerns, or staff challenges.
    • Collaborate with other departments to resolve operational issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Production Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of production activities, including output, downtime, and any incidents.
    • Prepare shift reports for the Production Manager, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) and any issues encountered during the shift.
    • Assist in inventory management and ensure materials are available for production.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Suggest and implement improvements to production processes, work efficiency, and employee performance.
    • Participate in meetings and training sessions aimed at improving production standards and operational processes.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements:
    • A diploma or degree in Engineering, Industrial Production, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • At least 2-3 years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
    • Experience in a supervisory or team-lead role is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
    • Good understanding of production processes, machinery, and safety protocols.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
    • Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively.
    • Knowledge of quality control practices and production standards.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Familiarity with production planning and control software.
    • Basic understanding of machine operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Detail-oriented and able to ensure high standards of quality and safety.
    • Ability to motivate and manage a team in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

Working Conditions:

  • This is a shift-based role, with flexibility to work across different shifts (morning, evening, night).
  • May require standing for extended periods and working in an industrial environment.
