Job Title / Role : Lead Digital Engineer(Backend)

Location: Bangalore (Electronic City I)

Education Qualification: B.E/B.Tech/BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Required Experience: 7-9 years of professional experience in software engineering, with at least 5-6 years in backend development and distributed systems.

TVS Data Science & Engineering Group, we are a community of Data Scientists, Machine Learning Researchers, and Data Engineers, working to drive TVS Motors' research in machine learning & deep learning solutions. We partner with our end customers, business teams, AI/ML vendors, and digital application development teams to build data products in different areas of the customer value chain

Purpose of the role

Backend Engineering team is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable APIs, microservices, and distributed systems that support various web & mobile applications, our data-science products and services, and machine learning APIs.

Role Description

This person will be responsible for overseeing all backend engineering activities of the team, ensuring proper execution of duties and alignment with the businesss overall vision.

The person will work with cross-functional teams across the company to build advanced APIs and backend systems. The ideal candidate will not only have extensive backend engineering experience but will also be passionate about emerging technologies, engineering best practices, and distributed system design. They should also be an astute mentor, capable of balancing appropriate delegation with timely, personalized mentorship.

Expertise in Node.js for building backend services and microservices.

In-depth knowledge of GraphQL, REST APIs, and API security best practices.

Strong experience with message brokers (Kafka, MQTT).

Knowledge of caching mechanisms and databases: Redis, SQL, and NoSQL solutions.

Hands-on experience managing backend systems in Kubernetes environments.

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and delivery.

Strong grasp of logging and monitoring tools like Grafana for system observability.

Solid understanding of distributed system design principles, event-driven architectures, and scalability techniques.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable and robust backend systems, GraphQL, REST APIs, and microservices.

Architect distributed systems to handle high-throughput workloads while ensuring reliability and performance.

Build and manage infrastructure in Kubernetes to deploy and orchestrate backend services effectively.

Integrate message brokers such as Kafka and MQTT for real-time communication and event-driven architecture.

Leverage caching and data storage solutions like Redis, SQL, and NoSQL databases to optimize application performance.

Collaborate with Mobile app and frontend teams to define APIs, data models, and contracts for seamless integration.

Optimize existing systems for cost-efficiency, scalability, and performance across distributed environments.

Ensure security best practices are applied to API design and backend architecture to safeguard sensitive data.

Mentor engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.
