Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and optimizing systems, components, and equipment for thermal power plants.

This role requires expertise in mechanical design, thermodynamics, and a deep understanding of power generation processes and various auxiliary systems of thermal power plant.

The engineer will work on high-pressure boilers, turbines, heat exchangers, and auxiliary systems Water Systems – Raw Water, Pre Treatment, DM Plant, Cooling Towers, ETP, STP etc., Material Handling Systems – Coal, Lignite, Limestone, Gypsum, Ash etc., Compressed Air System, Fuel Oil Handling System, Flue Gas Desulphurisation System, HP and LP Piping, HVAC System, Fire Protection System etc.,

The engineer shall have adequate and through knowledge about various standards – IS, ISO, BS, ASME, ASTM, DIN, EN, DIN etc.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and Development:

• Development of Process Flow Diagrams and P&IDs

• Development of layout and general arrangement drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS.

• Development of design basis reports for mechanical systems in thermal power plants as described above.

• Optimize designs to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure system reliability.

Engineering Activities:

• Perform thermal, stress, and fluid dynamics calculations for equipment and systems.

• Analyze mechanical loads, pressure, and temperature effects on materials and structures.

Technical Documentation:

• Preparation of technical specifications, design basis reports, and documentation for procurement and manufacturing.

• Review and approve vendor drawings and documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.

• Review of vendor offers and evaluation and preparation of technical evaluation reports etc.

Coordination:

• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, electrical, and control engineers, to integrate mechanical systems into overall plant designs

.

• Work closely with project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure design requirements are met.

Quality Assurance:

• Review of Manufacturing Quality Plans and Field Quality Plans

• Review of Test Certificates and performance test reports etc.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

• Experience: 5+ years of experience in mechanical design for thermal power plants or similar industries.

Skills:

• Proficiency in CAD and simulation software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS). Knowledge in 3D modeling

• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.

• Familiarity with power plant systems

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
