Lead Android Framework Engineer

The Operating System team is part of the Software Core Services group in the organization and is responsible for road-map, architecture, design, and management of the entire Mixed Reality ecosystem core libraries and tools. The Operating System team is accountable for delivering Infrastructure & Platform solutions for Tesseracts internal applications, supporting all verticals at Tesseract with broadly applicable horizontal solutions and shared infrastructures, which aligns with Tesseracts Technology Road-map.

The Lead Android Framework Engineer position is an individual contributor role. He/she will work as an interface between Developers, Engineers, Operations, and Support staff. He/she is passionate about designing and developing Operating System platforms/solutions.

The Lead Android Framework Engineer position requires expert level proficiency in technology and architecture, hands-on coding skills, and the ability to translate low-level business requirements into technology execution

• Developed and deployed a consumer operating system based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
• Use Agile as the core philosophy for software development/delivery
• Agile software delivery process using JIRA (including breaking down work into modular tasks, updating/tracking task status/work log entries for sprint management), Git (source code management including branching strategy, code review), and Jenkins/Bitbucket Pipelines (automated builds, automated unit test cases).
• Deep Knowledge of Android Framework Layer.
• Proactively communicate and collaborate with the architect and engineering manager to analyze business needs and functional requirements and deliver the scalable and modular libraries and tools.
• Work independently with architects to define concepts and hold your own in technical discussion, be a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence.
• Drive and mentor developers on how they will successfully execute their plans
• Serves as the conduit between the architect and the software development team through which requirements flow
• Be the liaison between the software developer, engineering manager, and support teams.
• Should maintain the quality and security of the assigned development tasks by applying the best design and development guidelines as defined in the project.
• Should work as per the defined project priorities and project schedules and ensure to complete the assigned projects within allotted timelines.
• A knack for benchmarking and optimization.

• BS/BTech or MS/MTech or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related degree from an accredited university 8+ years leading, designing, deploying, and/or on-boarding AOSP based platform solutions.
• Experience on framework components such as Window Manager, Activity Manager (AMS), PackageManager, SurfaceFlinger, AudioFlinger, vold, bluetoothd, zygote, netd
• Have worked with SE-Android, NDK, display manager, virtual displays, input manager, OpenGL, OpenCL, OpenVx, AIDL
• Should understand the low-level framework architecture of AOSP and Google android platform in general. Design Patterns in Android Application Framework.
• Experience in C/C++ and NDK programming (using JNI) for library generation for Android.
• Should understand HAL/HIDL module development at the framework level.
• Experience in Android platform tools and AOSP Android O, P, Q.
• Should understand the build system in android. kati, ninja, soong, etc
• Should understand android boot sequence including init, system server, etc
• Experience in building the whole android source code, adding or/and removing components, and flashing that build to the target system.
• Analysing Systrace, ftrace, logcat, other Android tools for performance measurement.
• Experience with Android SDK, Android JNI, C language.
• Experience in developing and modifying system-level applications like Launcher and Settings.
• Experience with Android Graphics Pipeline is a plus.
• Good knowledge of device firmware updates, OTA is a plus
