Role Overview : The Server and Storage Administrator with 2+ years of experience is a mid-level position responsible for managing, configuring, and optimizing an organization's server and storage infrastructure.

This role involves hands-on experience in troubleshooting complex issues, designing and implementing solutions, and ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of the IT environment.

Responsibilities :

Server Configuration and Optimization :

- Configure, manage, and optimize server hardware, operating systems, and virtualization platforms.

- Ensure efficient resource allocation and performance across the server infrastructure.

Storage Administration :

- Manage and maintain storage systems, including provisioning, data migration, performance tuning, and capacity planning.

- Ensure data availability, integrity, and security.

Backup and Recovery :

- Design, implement, and manage backup and recovery strategies for servers and storage systems.

- Monitor and troubleshoot backup jobs, perform data restores, and ensure the recoverability of critical systems.

Performance Monitoring and Tuning :

- Utilize monitoring tools to proactively identify and address server and storage performance issues.

- Optimize performance through configuration adjustments and infrastructure upgrades.

Capacity Planning :

- Analyze historical and projected server and storage usage patterns to plan for future resource requirements.

- Make recommendations for hardware upgrades and expansions.

Security Implementation :

- Implement and manage security measures for servers and storage systems, including access controls, encryption, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.

Incident Response and Troubleshooting :

- Investigate and resolve complex server and storage incidents, identifying root causes and implementing solutions to minimize downtime and impact.

Documentation and Reporting :

- Maintain comprehensive documentation of server configurations, storage layouts, backup procedures, and incident resolutions.

- Generate regular reports on performance and capacity.

Project Management :

- Lead or contribute to server and storage-related projects, such as migrations, hardware refreshes, technology evaluations, and data center relocations.

Automation and Scripting :

- Develop and implement scripts or automation tools to streamline routine administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.

Vendor and Resource Management :

- Interact with vendors to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners as needed.

Training and Mentoring :

- Share knowledge, mentor junior administrators, and provide training to team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.

Qualifications :

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

- 2+ years of hands-on experience in server and storage administration.

- Proficiency in server hardware, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).

- Strong understanding of storage concepts and technologies (SAN, NAS, RAID, etc.)

- Experience with backup and recovery solutions and strategies.

- Solid scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, etc.)

- Familiarity with network protocols, security best practices, and ITIL principles.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

- Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.

- Relevant certifications (e.g, Microsoft MCSE, VMware VCP, CompTIA Storage+) are a plus.
