The Role
The Linux Systems Engineering department at SUSE develops and maintains SLE solutions that empowers customers to deploy business-critical workloads on-premises, in the cloud and at the edge.
In this role, you will be part of a team of passionate engineers working to build and maintain our SLE product line. You will be required to adapt quickly and bring insightful contributions both to design and implementation processes, constantly raising the quality bar while pragmatically adding value to the product offering. You will be responsible for working with customers and community contributors to identify problems, turn them into good reports, track progress, and provide actual solutions and feedback to our users.
What you ll do
Collaborate with other engineers and architects to ensure that supported upstream community projects are deployable and run efficiently on SUSE supported platforms.
Develop and maintain internal and customer facing products and services.
Participate in technical design and code review processes
Contribute to existing documentation and/or educational content based on product requirements and user feedback
Contribute to maintaining a positive, healthy and inclusive learning culture.
Manage and expand relationships with internal and outsourced partners for quality, product manufacturing and development.
Review and evaluate product and solution designs and production activities for potential quality issues; provides tangible feedback based on results and root-cause analysis and designs and implements solutions to improve product quality and mitigate risk of failures.
Provide domain-specific expertise and overall product engineering leadership and perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities.
Drive innovation and integration of new technologies and quality initiatives into projects and activities in the manufacturing engineering organization.
Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members.
What you ll bring
SUSE looks for passionate engineers who are motivated to make an impact for their team and our customers. The ideal candidate will have past experience working as a Senior Software Engineer in the domain of networking, network virtualisation, security on Linux distributions with expertise in DPDK, OVS and OVN. . We expect you to have:
Experience developing software on Linux distributions.
Experience with hypervisors and virtualisation management tools like Libvirt.
Knowledge of Network I/O virtualisation technologies (SR-IOV, PCI-Passthrough)
Experience developing systems/applications using one or more general programming languages (e.g. C, Python) utilizing git-based source control management tools, , including the corresponding ecosystem and best practices.
Willing to engage with open source communities, both our own and those of upstream projects.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a remote team
A strong sense of ownership, accountability, transparency, and drive
At least five years of experience developing software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Nice to have
Experience using services from one or more of the Big 3 Cloud Service providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience working with and contributing to open-source communities
Education and Experience Required
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent. Typically 7-10 years experience.
