Senior Platform Engineer

Position Overview

Working with the engineering teams to ensure all Evotix solutions and the supporting infrastructure are built to be scalable and secure with automation employed to deploy and maintain those solutions. Working with the Business Technology and Support teams to ensure product availability is proactively maintained.

You will work closely with the Business Technology, Development, and Product teams to support efficient and high-quality delivery of our products, whilst ensuring security, performance, resilience, and cost objectives are achieved.

• Ensuring that our infrastructure as code adheres to agreed best practices throughout the software development lifecycle, including compliance with business accreditations and alignment to product architecture.
• Supporting and collaborating with our Business Technology team to operate our products effectively in production environments.
• Implementing development environments and software delivery pipelines to support our development agile teams and enable the adoption of continuous delivery practices.
• Supporting other platform engineering team members to succeed in their roles and further their professional development.
• Maintaining and developing secure, scalable, performant Multi-tenant SaaS applications on AWS cloud in conjunction with technical leads.
• Supporting continuous improvement of software development processes, tools, and skills.
• Taking responsibility for gathering technical requirements and specifications.
• Contributing to technology and product roadmaps through identifying emerging and alternate technologies that are suitable for us to research and evaluate.
• Understanding the needs of internal and external customers, identifying ways to fulfill these needs within the scope of the platform engineering teams responsibilities.
• Demonstrating a deep expertise of several key technologies and have ownership of a particular area or technology.
• Go to expert in a specialism within the business.
• Understanding of industry standards and being aware of shifts in the technology sector.

Primary Objectives and Responsibilities

• Create and modify Infrastructure as Code templates using CloudFormation, CDK and Terraform.
• Work with platform engineering team members, other senior team members and heads of teams to implement and maintain a scalable, secure, and cost-effective platform for Evotix SaaS products.
• Create, refine, and estimate backlog items as part of agile engineering methodology.
• Apply best practice use of version control systems (peer review, pull requests etc.)
• Collaborating with platform engineering team members to live out our team values.
• Create and maintain Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery pipelines to ensure code releases and infrastructure changes are performed in a robust and repeatable manner.
• Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems, ensuring all services maintain required uptime to meet contractual obligations (SLAs), working closely with Business Technology.
• Support Business Technology team with resolving system incidents in production.
• Respond to alerts and system incidents with development systems.
• Carry out manual configuration and deployment activities for areas not covered by Infrastructure as Code.
• Support the Head of Platform Engineering with developing the roadmap for the team.
• Provide guidance to platform engineering team members on best practices on a range of aspects of platform engineering work.

Expertise a proficiency or knowledge a person has that enables them to be effective in their role.

• You shall have a minimum 5 years of AWS experience.
• Existing commercial experience in a DevOps/Platform/Software engineering role.
• Detailed knowledge of CI/CD practices.
• Extensive experience with AWS cloud services.
• Containerization and orchestration (Docker, ECS)
• Detailed understanding of Information security principles (CIA, access control, segregation of duties etc.)
• Advanced Linux and Windows system administration.
• Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform).
• Good documentation and communication skills including ability to interact effectively with non-technical colleagues.
• Skilled in problem solving within operational and development contexts.
• Agile SDLC experience with Continuous Delivery.
• C#, Python, and other scripting languages.
