Costing/RFQ Engineer

Role Overview

As a Costing/RFQ Engineer, you will be responsible for handling the entire RFQ (Request for Quotation) and ECN (Engineering Change Notice) process. Your role involves managing and converting customer 3D and 2D drawings, preparing DXFs, creating BOMs, conducting feasibility reviews, and collaborating with cross-functional teams (PED, Purchase, Quality) to optimize manufacturing processes and purchases. You will deliver finalized drawings, technical reviews, and cost sheets for approval and ensure these are correctly uploaded in SAP. This position requires strong technical, costing, and data analysis skills to meet customer requirements and maintain expected margins for Steel1.

Role & responsibilities

1. RFQ Drawing Management and Conversion

• Accountabilities: Manage the entire RFQ process, from receiving and converting customer drawings to preparing DXFs for internal use.
• Responsibilities:
• Ensure timely and accurate handover of drawings to the Costing team, with proper revisions and approvals.

2. BOM Creation and Management

• Accountabilities: Create and upload accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) in SAP.
• Responsibilities:
• Compare BOMs between similar products to validate costings and optimize the process.

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Technical Review

• Accountabilities: Collaborate with CFT (PED, Purchase, Quality) to optimize processes and purchases.
• Responsibilities:
• Participate in discussions to choose the best build/buy strategy and manufacturing processes.

4. Costing and Price Variation Analysis

• Accountabilities: Prepare and submit tooling cost and part cost sheets for approval.
• Responsibilities:
• Ensure that costing proposals, price variations, and tooling proposals are submitted accurately and on time.

5. Engineering Change Notice (ECN) Process Management

• Accountabilities: Handle and implement ECN proposals (customer-directed or internal) on time.
• Responsibilities:
• Follow the ECN process to maintain accurate records and ensure successful implementation during manufacturing.

6. Product Margin and Cost Run Monitoring

• Accountabilities: Monitor and compare product-wise contribution margins by reviewing costing plans with actuals.
• Responsibilities:
• Conduct cost runs in SAP to analyze and validate product margins.

7. Documentation and SAP Management

• Accountabilities: Ensure all engineering documents (e.g., drawings, BOMs, DXFs, routings, ECNs) are up-to-date and accessible for manufacturing.
• Responsibilities:
• Maintain accurate SAP records and ensure alignment with cost sheets.
