Vmc Setter / In charge

Job Summary:

A VMC (Vertical Machining Center) Setter is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and preparing (VMCs) for production. They ensure precision machining of components by configuring tools, workpieces, and machine parameters as per job requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Machine Setup & Preparation:
   
• Set up VMC machines based on work orders and engineering drawings.
• Load and align workpieces accurately using clamps, fixtures, and jigs.
• Install and calibrate cutting tools, tool holders, and machine offsets.
2. Program & Tool Management:
   
• Load, verify, and adjust CNC programs as per specifications.
• Select and install appropriate cutting tools for machining operations.
• Modify tool offsets and parameters to achieve accurate dimensions.
3. Quality Control & Inspection:
   
• Conduct first-piece inspection using measuring instruments (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
• Ensure parts meet tolerance levels as per engineering drawings and specifications.
• Perform in-process quality checks and make necessary adjustments.
4. Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
   
• Identify and resolve machining issues such as tool wear, vibration, or dimensional errors.
• Maintain machine cleanliness and perform routine maintenance as per schedules.
• Report breakdowns or major maintenance needs to the maintenance team.
5. Process Optimization:
   
• Improve setup times and cycle times by optimizing tool paths and parameters.
• Reduce material wastage and enhance production efficiency.
• Work closely with CNC programmers and production planners to improve processes.
6. Safety & Compliance:
   
• Follow workplace safety regulations and use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
• Adhere to company SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and ISO guidelines.
• Ensure proper handling and disposal of metal shavings and coolants.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

• ITI/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in VMC setup and operation.
• Knowledge of CNC programming (Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain controls).
• Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• Experience with precision measuring instruments.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
