Job Description: Data Catalog Engineer
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Data Catalog Engineer to join our growing data governance team.
You will play a vital role in supporting and managing our data catalog platform (Alation, Collibra, Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog), ensuring its optimal performance, and enabling our organization to effectively discover, understand, and utilize its data assets.
This role requires a strong understanding of data governance principles, experience with data catalog tools, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
Key Responsibilities :
- Administer and maintain the data catalog platform, ensuring its smooth operation and optimal performance.
- Provide technical support to users, troubleshooting issues, and answering questions related to the data catalog.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls within the data catalog.
- Monitor system performance and identify areas for optimization.
- Perform regular system maintenance tasks, including upgrades, patches, and backups.
- Collaborate with data governance teams to implement and enforce data governance policies and standards within the data catalog.
- Ensure data quality, metadata completeness, and data lineage are accurately captured and maintained within the catalog.
- Support the implementation of data ownership, stewardship, and accountability frameworks.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of data dictionaries, business glossaries, and other metadata artifacts.
- Collaborate with data management teams to integrate the data catalog with other data management tools and systems.
- Identify opportunities to enhance the functionality and usability of the data catalog.
- Work with vendors to evaluate and implement new features and capabilities.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to the data catalog and its usage.
- Develop and deliver training programs to educate users on how to effectively use the data catalog.
- Create training materials, tutorials, and other resources to support user adoption.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to users as needed.
- Work closely with data engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide support.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Participate in data governance meetings and initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications :
- Experience with data catalog tools such as Alation, Collibra, Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices.
- Experience with metadata management, data lineage, and data quality concepts.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with SQL and data modeling is a plus.
- Familiarity with data warehousing and business intelligence concepts is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Management, or a related field preferred.
Preferred Skills :
- Experience with data integration tools.
- Knowledge of APIs and web services.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies
