Member Technical Staff, Database Reliability Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

1. Database Management and Administration:
- Administer, maintain, and optimize SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability - 80%
- Administer, maintain, and optimize Postgresql databases - 20%
- Oversee PostgreSQL databases and support migration efforts between SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
- Perform regular database monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting to maximize performance.

2. Cloud and Infrastructure Management:
- Deploy and manage databases on AWS using services such as RDS, EC2, and S3.
- Plan and execute database backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies, leveraging AWS capabilities for cost-effective solutions.
- Ensure data security and compliance within AWS cloud environments.

3. SQL and Scripting:
- Write and optimize complex T-SQL queries and stored procedures for SQL Server.
- Develop and manage PostgreSQL scripts, functions, and performance tuning tasks.
- Utilize automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) to streamline database tasks.

4. Database Architecture and Optimization:
- Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to design and implement scalable database architectures.
- Conduct performance analysis and capacity planning to anticipate and meet future data needs.
- Review and optimize database design, indexing strategies, and storage configurations.

5. Support and Troubleshooting:
- Act as a subject matter expert for SQL Server and PostgreSQL, supporting database-related issues across development, testing, and production.
- Mentor junior DBAs and provide guidance on best practices for database management.
- Participate in on-call support rotation to troubleshoot and resolve database incidents.

Required Skills and Experience:

- SQL Server DBA Expertise: 7+ years of experience in SQL Server database administration (versions 2016 and above).
- PostgreSQL Proficiency: 2+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, including database migration and management.
- AWS Cloud: Strong hands-on experience with AWS, especially RDS, EC2, and S3. Familiarity with AWS networking and security best practices is preferred.
- T-SQL: Advanced knowledge of T-SQL for writing complex queries, stored procedures, and functions.
- Database Performance Tuning: Proven skills in performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
- Backup and Recovery: Solid experience in setting up and managing backups, restores, and disaster recovery plans.
- Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automating database and cloud tasks.
