Job Description

Role & responsibilities


  • General
  1. Overseeing the plants daily operations and identifying opportunities for improvement of safety
  2. regulations and advising the concerned departments in a plant in planning and organizing measures
  3. necessary for the effective control of personal injuries.
  4. Routine check and follow-up with the relevant departments to evaluate the effectiveness of the action
  5. taken or proposed to be taken to prevent personal injuries.
  6. Develop and maintain details of Emergency response procedures/processes for all possible emergency situations.

a. Identify and train the Emergency response team.

b. Conduct frequent mock drills.

c. Conduct regular inspections of emergency equipment.


Risk Assessment & Aspect Impact Analysis

  • Conducting risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents, occupational illnesses, or long-term

health hazards.

  • In similar lines the environment Aspect Impact analysis to prevent damage to the environment need

to carried out.

  • Engage the stakeholders, and department representatives to develop risk assessment with safe work

institutions for all routine and non-routine activities in their respective departments.

  • To advise on safety aspects in all job studies, and to carry out detailed job safety studies of selected

jobs


PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

  • To advise the purchasing and stores department in ensuring high quality and availability of personal protective equipment;

Working standards

  • Ensure the effective implementation of the following standards & procedures

a. HIRA (Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment)

b. PTW (Permit to Work)

c. JSA (Job Safety Analysis)

d. LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out)

e. Machine Guarding

f. Lifting shifting and material handling

g. Contractor Safety Management

h. Waste Management Procedure

i. Incident Reporting & Investigation Procedure, and

j. Other Standards & Procedures which will be developed over the period


  • Conduct frequent inspections and audits on the same and communicate the findings imparting required additional supports to Plant head & Corporate HSE.

Inspections and Audit

  • Develop and maintain a measurement and monitoring plan (Internal & external inspections) and
  • comply with the same in line with the target dates.
  • Performing safety audits and physically inspecting all work areas and job sites to identify possible
  • safety job sites
  • To carry out plant safety inspections in order to observe the physical conditions of work and the work
  • practices and procedures followed by the workers and to render advice on measures to be adopted for
  • removing unsafe physical conditions and preventing unsafe actions by workers
  • Conduct an Internal audit with the qualified internal auditors.

Incident / Accident Management

  • Ensure all the incidents are communicated and investigated as per the incident management

procedure, If there is a deviation then escalate the same up to Plants head level.


a. Ensure communication of the incident is done as per the incident reporting procedure

b. Ensure the certified incident investigator available at all departments and form an

investigation team and render advice on matters related to reporting and investigation of

industrial accidents

  • To advise on the maintenance of such records as are necessary relating to accidents.

Coordinate - Sub Committee activity

  • Ensure participation in all the subcommittee meetings by the nominated members and render

required support to the stakeholders to complete the actions

  • Ensure the relevant data is supplied to the respective subcommittee for monitoring and tracking

progress


Safety Committee

  • Identify Safety committee members from all departments (Both White collar and blue collar) as per the factory act /rule
  • Conduct Monthly safety committee meeting
  • To promote the setting up of safety committees and act as adviser and catalyst to such committees
  • In the safety committee meeting, the following should be discussed and MOM should be communicated across all departments (display in the notice board) with target dates

a. Last Safety committee meeting points and compliance status

b. HSE performance (Statistic of Lead and lagging indicator, Incident and injuries trend) and

action for critical points

c. Action points from SC and QBR and its status

d. Legal compliance and Emergency response status

e. Internal & external Audit reports compliance, HSE inspection reports compliance, and

Internal and external interested parties observations.

f. Management of change


ESG - Environment, Social & Governance

  • Conduct comprehensive ESG research and analysis, evaluating a company's performance against industry-specific criteria and standards.
  • Identify key ESG risks, opportunities, and trends, providing insights to support strategic decision-making and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement ESG strategies, policies, and initiatives that align with sustainability objectives.
  • Monitor and measure ESG performance indicators, track progress, and produce regular reports to communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on evolving ESG regulations, industry best practices, and emerging sustainability trends, incorporating them into organisational strategies.

Other Programmes

  • To organize in association with the concerned departments campaigns, competitions, contests and other activities which will develop and maintain the interest of the workers in establishing and maintaining safe conditions of work and procedures; and
  • To design and conduct either independently or in collaboration with the training department, suitable training and educational programs for the prevention of personal injuries.

Plant HSE Reports

Leading and Lagging Report - Collect relevant information on HSE from stakeholders and communicate the same to Corporate Safety and Plant head as per the group level defined timelines


Preferred candidate profile

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Science Graduate & M.E/ M.Tech in Industrial Safety Recognized by the state government (or) Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS) completed from RLI /CLI and
  • Has adequate knowledge of Tamil.
  • Knowledge of BRSR & GRI standards, waste management, energy conservation, water conservation etc,.
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in the HSE field in a Plant / Corporate profile.
  • Have worked in good reputed organisation handling people complexity, have working knowledge on behaviour based Safety, Driving safety etc.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities, teamwork, communication and analytical skills.
  • A working knowledge on computer & skills with a working knowledge of analytics and associated software packages.
  • Time management skills needed to maintain deadlines.
  • Should be willing to travel for interplant visits 2 to 3 times a month.
