Radio Operator

Role Overview
The Radio Operator will be responsible for maintaining effective communication between offshore platforms/rigs and onshore operations, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and emergency protocols. This role requires a professional with hands-on experience in offshore environments and expertise in operating radio communication equipment as per Indian GMDSS and GOC regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Communication Management:
• Operate and maintain radio communication systems (VHF, MF/HF, and satellite) on offshore platforms.
• Facilitate seamless communication between offshore installations, vessels, and onshore control centers.
• Ensure proper documentation of incoming and outgoing messages.
• Regulatory Compliance:
• Adhere to maritime communication protocols as per the Directorate General of Shipping, ONGC guidelines, and international standards.
• Maintain valid Indian GMDSS and GOC certifications, along with required endorsements.
• Emergency Response:
• Act as the communication focal point during emergency situations, coordinating with search and rescue teams and onshore emergency response centers.
• Monitor and operate emergency distress signals and equipment as required.
• Equipment Maintenance:
• Regularly inspect, test, and troubleshoot communication equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
• Coordinate with technical teams for repair and maintenance of faulty equipment.
• Record Keeping:
• Maintain accurate logs of radio communications, equipment inspections, and regulatory checks.
• Ensure timely submission of reports and records to the Installation Manager or relevant authority.
• Operational Support:
• Provide assistance during helicopter movements, including communication with pilots and base stations.
• Coordinate logistics and vessel movements as per operational requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Valid Indian GMDSS (General Maritime Distress and Safety System) certification.
• Valid Indian GOC (General Operator’s Certificate) with necessary endorsements.
• Strong command of English (both written and verbal) for effective communication.
