Position Objective:
Purdrop Biochem Pvt. Ltd. is seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team for the establishment of a biodiesel manufacturing plant at the greenfield stage in Shoolagiri, Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical aspects of the project, ensuring it meets quality standards and timelines.
Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will play a crucial role in the planning, design, and execution of the greenfield project, working closely with the project team to ensure successful completion. The individual should have a solid background in mechanical engineering with relevant experience in project management, construction, and maintenance of facilities and infrastructure essential for biodiesel production. This role involves overseeing construction projects, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and optimizing site operations to support efficient production processes.
Reporting:
The Mechanical Engineer will report directly to the Project Manager and will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the project's success.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment Selection and Installation:
- Identify and select suitable machinery and equipment essential for biodiesel manufacturing, including reactors, pressure vessels, distillation units, heat exchangers, condensers, boilers, cooling towers, filter presses, and storage tanks.
- Analyze plant layout for optimal placement and operational flow, collaborate with engineering teams, and coordinate with suppliers for procurement.
- Oversee the installation process, ensuring adherence to timelines, specifications, and safety protocols.
- Manage the erection and fabrication activities, pipeline fabrication, and installation, ensuring compliance with design layout.
- Conduct comprehensive commissioning and testing of installed equipment to validate operational readiness.
- Compile documentation and provide operational training to personnel
2. Mechanical Design and Implementation:
- Ensure accurate implementation of mechanical design plans during the construction phase, focusing on process layouts and the integration of equipment necessary for biodiesel production.
- Troubleshoot any mechanical issues that may arise during the project, ensuring minimal downtime.
3. Maintenance Planning:
- Develop maintenance plans for all mechanical equipment to ensure longevity and operational efficiency, specifically tailored to equipment used in biodiesel processing.
- Schedule regular maintenance activities and inspections to prevent breakdowns, with an emphasis on critical equipment such as reactors and boiler systems.
4. Quality Control:
- Implement quality control measures to ensure all mechanical components and installations conform to relevant industry standards (such as ASME for pressure vessels).
- Conduct inspections and tests to verify the functionality and performance of mechanical systems utilized in biodiesel production.
5. Energy Efficiency:
- Identify opportunities for energy savings and efficiency improvements in mechanical systems, focusing on reducing thermal losses in processes such as distillation and heat exchange.
- Implement measures to reduce energy consumption and overall production costs, such as optimizing the operation of cooling towers and heat recovery systems.
6. Budget Management:
- Oversee budget and cost control for mechanical work to stay within allocated funds, including managing costs associated with procurement of equipment like filter presses and storage tanks.
- Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality or safety.
7. Material Procurement:
- Coordinate with suppliers for the procurement of mechanical materials and components essential for biodiesel processing, ensuring timely delivery and quality of materials.
- Collaborate with engineering departments in developing specifications for materials suited to high-pressure and high-temperature applications found in biodiesel operations.
8. Project Coordination:
- Work closely with the Project Manager and other stakeholders to align mechanical work with project goals and timelines.
- Provide regular updates on mechanical progress, equipment status, and potential challenges impacting project delivery.
9. Contractor Management:
Selection of Contractors: Choose contractors based on their experience, reputation, financial stability, and past performance, aligning with the project's specific needs.
Contractual Agreements: Establish clear contracts outlining the scope of work, timelines, payment schedules, quality expectations, and safety compliance.
Communication: Maintain regular communication with contractors to ensure transparency, address concerns, and foster collaboration through meetings and reports.
10. Workforce Management:
Workforce Allocation: Assess the number of workers and required skills for each project phase, assigning personnel accordingly.
Skill Assessment: Evaluate the contractor's workforce skills to ensure alignment with project needs, encouraging ongoing training.
Scheduling: Create a detailed work schedule to efficiently utilize resources and minimize delays.
11. Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all mechanical engineering regulations, standards, and environmental guidelines pertinent to biodiesel manufacturing.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and industry codes to promote workplace safety and environmental responsibility.
12. Problem Solving:
- Quickly resolve mechanical issues that arise during the construction and commissioning phases to prevent project delays, employing a hands-on approach to troubleshooting.
- Implement efficient solutions to ensure mechanical systems operate effectively throughout the biodiesel production process.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 1-10 years of relevant experience in construction and project management within the context of industrial facilities. Candidate shall be well versed with design software i.e. Autocad.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices, especially related to biodiesel production and equipment.
- Familiarity with the specific mechanical equipment used in biodiesel processes, such as reactors, boiler systems, and filtration technologies.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
