Roles Responsibilities

The Technical Manager, for Industrial Castings, at PTC, plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the technical aspects of our casting processes. The individual will lead a team dedicated to

ensuring product quality, process efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This role requires a deep

understanding of metallurgy, manufacturing processes, and effective communication skills to liaise with both internal teams and external clients.

1. Provide expert knowledge in metallurgy to guide material selection, heat treatment processes, and alloy compositions for optimal casting performance.
2. Conduct metallurgical analysis to troubleshoot issues and improve material properties.
3. Continuously evaluate and improve casting processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase yield.
4. Implement best practices and innovative techniques to streamline production workflows.
5. Lead investigations into defects or failures in casting processes, conducting thorough root cause analyses to implement corrective actions.
6. Develop and maintain RCA documentation to prevent recurring issues.
7. Act as a technical liaison between the company and clients, addressing technical inquiries, resolving issues, and providing guidance on product specifications.
8. Collaborate with the sales team to understand customer requirements and ensure alignment with technical capabilities.
9. Provide technical expertise during the RFQ process, including assessing feasibility, estimating costs, and proposing optimal solutions to meet customer needs.
10. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive RFQ responses.
11. Ensure that TE Team is aware and aligned to meet targets and timeline of NPD projects.
12. Establish and maintain effective communication channels with customers to address customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback.
13. Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers. Coordinate with procurement team for availability of materials and tools.
14. Evaluate and sanction NPD project proposals, engaging in comprehensive discussions with the team for approval

1. Ensure that team is accurately using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles in 3D models for patterns and final castings along with review and approval of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing specifications in design documents.
2. Oversee the use of CAD software (Solidworks, PRO-E, CREO, etc.) for pattern and casting design.
3. Review and approve method sheets containing dimensions, tolerances, allowances, and material specifications.
4. Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
5. Review design calculations for pouring rate, gate, and riser design, pouring time, and pouring temperature for New Product Developments (NPDs).
6. Oversee the preparation of 2D drawings using Solidworks and ensure accuracy completeness of drawings.
7. Supervise the simulation of 3D models using simulation software. Review simulation results to identify and address possible defects and challenges. Review and approve 3D models created by the team.
8. Ensure adherence to programming standards and review programming related to the operation of prototyping.
9. Review and approve dies and patterns for casting and ensure that die manufacturing processes are efficient, precise, and meet the required customer specifications.
10. Review and approve processes like firing, shell assembly, and shell inspection techniques.
11. Ensure that the shelling process is done correctly and that the chosen techniques align with the specific requirements of the casting.
12. Review and approve documents related to prototyping, product process development, SOP technique development, PFMEA, Control Plan, QAP, Configuration Management and FAIR.
13. Review and approve team KPIs and ensure that all KPIs meet their projected target.
14. Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance in manufacturing operations.

• Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering, metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.
• Master s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field is preferable.

• 8 to 16 years of proven experience in New Product Development in any steel, foundry, or investment casting industry.
• Leading a technical team to deliver New Product Development projects.

• Proven track record of evaluating and approving NPD project proposals
