Blood Centre Technician

Role & responsibilities

i. The technician is responsible for carrying out assigned activities related to donor eligibility, donor care, and blood collection

ii. Essential functions of the Technician are to assist in smooth and efficient donor flow, to determine donor acceptability, to perform sterile vein puncture for the collection of a unit of whole blood and to ensure quality products throughout the phlebotomy process

iii. They perform blood tests and collect blood donations, perform tests and supervise all aspects of blood collection, storage and delivery.

iv. They are responsible for typing blood and screening for antibodies,

v. When an adverse reaction to transfusion occurs, they are responsible for investigating, and can perform many specialized tests to identify pathogens and antigens.

vi. Responsible for production of blood components; red cells, leukocyte reduced red cells, FFP, cryoprecipitate

vii. They are responsible for separation of blood into components for specialized use, and provide information to other medical staff on use of specialized blood delivery equipment and products

viii. Responsible for labeling all products and ensuring adequate inventory of blood components.

ix. Take over from the procedure as per checklist.

x. Check the working of equipments including refrigerator.

xi. Check blood stock.

xii. Check due donors for blood donation.

Preferred candidate profile

Candidate should have atleast 2 years experience in 100+ bedded Hospital's Blood Centre.

Qualification: Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Technology
