Junior Student Counselor

Key Responsibilities:

1. Student Support:
   
• Provide basic counseling services to students dealing with stress, anxiety, academic concerns, homesickness, and cultural adaptation.
• Listen to students concerns, offering advice and appropriate referrals where necessary.
• Assist in developing and delivering student workshops on stress management, study skills, and time management.
2. Academic Assistance:
   
• Guide students with academic issues, helping them understand academic policies, procedures, and resources available to them.
• Support students in addressing academic challenges by referring them to appropriate academic support programs or tutors.
3. Cultural Adjustment:
   
• Assist students in adjusting to life in a new cultural and academic environment by providing resources on local customs, cultural expectations, and practical tips for settling in.
• Organize and support events or social activities aimed at helping international students integrate into the community.
4. Referral and Liaison:
   
• Refer students to more specialized services (e.g., mental health counseling, visa support) as needed.
• Serve as a liaison between students and other departments (e.g., academic departments, international office, student clubs).
5. Documentation and Record Keeping:
   
• Maintain confidential student records and ensure compliance with the organization’s privacy and data protection policies.
• Assist in tracking and documenting students’ progress, follow-ups, and any ongoing support needed.
6. Communication:
   
• Communicate effectively with students through various channels (in-person, email, phone, or online platforms).
• Collaborate with senior counselors, faculty, and staff to address student concerns in a timely and supportive manner.
7. Professional Development:
   
• Attend training, workshops, and conferences to improve counseling skills, cultural competence, and understanding of international student issues.
• Stay updated on the latest trends in student support services and international student welfare.

Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
• Prior experience or internships in student counseling, student services, or a related area (preferred but not required).
• Familiarity with issues faced by international students, including academic pressure, cultural adaptation, and personal well-being.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of students from various cultural and academic backgrounds.
• A high level of empathy, patience, and confidentiality.
• Basic understanding of counseling techniques and principles.
• Proficiency in using office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
