Key Responsibilities:
Piping Design & Modeling:
Create 3D models of piping systems using specialized software like AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, PDMS, or AutoPLANT.
Develop detailed designs, including pipe routing, supports, fittings, and connections.
Model the integration of piping with other mechanical, electrical, and civil systems.
Design Coordination:
Collaborate with engineers to ensure that the piping design meets the specifications, safety standards, and project requirements.
Work closely with structural and electrical designers to ensure the seamless integration of all components.
Drawing Creation:
Produce detailed construction drawings, including isometric views, plan views, and elevation drawings.
Create bills of materials (BOM) and technical specifications for procurement.
Piping System Analysis:
Conduct basic stress analysis and ensure that the piping system is designed to handle thermal expansion, pressure, and other operational factors.
Ensure the design meets the required pressure ratings, flow rates, and other system parameters.
Revisions and Updates:
Modify existing piping models and drawings as required by changes in project specifications or client feedback.
Track and manage revisions to ensure the design remains up-to-date throughout the project lifecycle.
Compliance with Standards:
Ensure that the piping design adheres to industry codes, standards (such as ASME, ANSI, and ASTM), and client specifications.
Incorporate safety measures and regulations into the design.
Quality Control and Risk Management:
Review models and designs for accuracy and completeness.
Identify potential issues or risks in the design and work to mitigate them before the construction phase.
Material Selection:
Recommend appropriate materials for pipes, valves, and fittings based on the project's requirements and environmental conditions.
Collaboration and Communication:
Communicate effectively with other departments such as mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering to ensure proper coordination.
Participate in project meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and design issues.
Software and Tools:
Proficiency in 3D modeling and design software (AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, PDS, PDMS, etc.).
Familiarity with industry-specific design tools for stress analysis, flow calculations, and system integration.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Typically requires a degree or diploma in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field. Some positions may also be suitable for candidates with certifications in piping design or drafting.
Experience: Prior experience in piping design, modeling, or drafting, especially in industrial or construction settings.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in 3D modeling software and CAD programs.
Knowledge of Codes and Standards: Understanding of industry-specific piping standards (ASME, API, etc.) and local regulations.
Attention to Detail: Ability to work with complex designs and ensure accuracy and completeness in modeling and drawings.
Problem-Solving: Ability to identify design challenges and come up with practical solutions.
