Linux Vulnerability and Patching Engineer

The Linux Vulnerability and Patching Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the security and integrity of Linux systems by managing and applying operating system (OS) and third-party patches. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, maintaining patch reports, and participating in problem management processes. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in Linux administration , patch management , and vulnerability remediation while being able to work independently on assigned projects.

• Linux System Patching:

  • Perform regular OS and third-party application patching for Linux servers and end-user devices .
  • Ensure systems are updated and secure against known vulnerabilities.

• Vulnerability Management:

  • Work as part of the Vulnerability Management task force to identify, assess, and remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and problem management discussions.

• Collaboration & Scheduling:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify dependencies and schedule maintenance windows for patching.
  • Ensure minimal disruption during patch deployments.

• Reporting & Documentation:

  • Generate and maintain monthly patch baseline reports.
  • Ensure adherence to internal policies, processes, and procedures within the vulnerability management scope.

• Project Execution:

  • Assist in the execution of projects related to vulnerability management and patching .
  • Independently manage assigned projects with minimal supervision .

• Linux Administration & Patching Tools:

  • Strong administration, management, and troubleshooting skills in Linux environments (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, etc. ).
  • Hands-on experience with Linux patch management tools such as:
    • Spacewalk
    • Red Hat Satellite
    • Ansible
    • SUSE Manager

• Vulnerability Remediation & Compliance:

  • Experience in vulnerability remediation , security hardening , and compliance enforcement for Linux systems.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability scanning tools such as:
    • Tenable Nessus
    • Qualys
    • OpenVAS

• Automation & Package Management:

  • Understanding of package management tools (YUM, DNF, APT, Zypper) and their role in OS patching.
  • Familiarity with automation tools for patch deployment:
    • Ansible
    • Chef
    • Puppet

• Advanced Infrastructure Knowledge:

  • Experience working with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and implementing security best practices .
  • Understanding of virtualization platforms and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.

• Communication & Collaboration:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Good presentation skills for sharing vulnerability and patching updates.

• Project Management:

  • Ability to multi-task and manage large , complex , and concurrent projects effectively.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage assigned projects independently .
