Key skills for the job
The primary areas of responsibility within the lab would be to look after the overall operations of the medical laboratory.
Assist the Head of the department in providing an efficient administration of the medical laboratory services including budget planning and control, in accordance with institutional requirements.
Provide High Quality of Service which leads to increased value of customer, repeat usage, increased volumes, reduced costs, increased margins, higher quality and greater pricing latitude.
Define, implement and monitor standards of performance and quality improvement of the medical laboratory service or services: ensure examination procedures are done properly (pre-, actual and post-examination)
Verification and examination of reports or results of the referral laboratory and advising on report preparation and interpretative remarks if necessary on the report issued.
Assist the Head of the department in evaluating, selection and purchase of equipment and consumables (chemical and reagents) for the medical laboratory which affects the quality of service. Approval of indents raised by concerned group leader for their intended use.
Ensure availability of sufficient qualified personnel with adequate documented training and experience to meet the needs of the medical laboratory.
Ensure Calibration and maintenance of equipment pertaining to the medical laboratory. Assist the Head of department in authorizing the personnel for usage of equipment and specific tests.
Assist in selection and monitoring all referral laboratories for quality of service.
Assist the Head of the department in implementation of the quality management system. Verification of the implementation and effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions, QC and QA checks.
Review all STPs and Quality system documents in consultation with medical laboratory staff and Quality assurance department at regular intervals.
Provide day to day advice to those requesting information about the choice of tests, the use of the laboratory service and the interpretation of laboratory data. Address any compliant, request or suggestion from users of laboratory services. Interact with the Head of the department and group leaders for technical interpretations on tests and other aspects.
Maintain training records with updated CVs and job descriptions and identify training requirements, plan and schedule training programs and competency evaluation in consultation with HOD and HRD. Provide on job training on new STPs prepared and equipments.
Motivate staff to upkeep time protocols and to be friendly and courteous which would be evidenced by their smiles and cheerfulness. Allocate duties and monitor and sanction leaves basis of work load and personnel requirements.
Remove communication gaps (allow for short and often informal lines of communication). Report internal and external customers opinions to the management board.
Review Inventory levels maintain master logbooks on all consumables. Estimate requirements on monthly/quarterly basis and indent for chemicals and consumables in sufficient advance time.
Compilation and submission of results to PT providers and review the Proficiency test outlier with required corrective and preventive actions.
Maintenance of TAT and STAT in the department with monthly compilation of Quality indicators data and submission to head of the department for review.
Documenting IT request forms and creating new test codes or incorporate changes in the method and reference ranges in Path Online software
Monitoring of all log books in the department and reporting to the HOD.
Maintaining Personnel safety and proper Ergonomics in the laboratory.
Preparation of the Duty Rosters on weekly or monthly basis of the employees and submit to HR
Provides administrative support for the laboratory by acting as a manager on call
Upgrading professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars/ workshops and participating in CME’s.
