Principal Scientist - Organic Chemistry

Role & responsibilities

• As the Chemistry Group Leader, you will lead a team of talented research scientists and chemists, providing mentorship and fostering a collaborative environment to drive innovation in synthetic chemistry.
• You will oversee multiple projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while troubleshooting any challenges that arise along the way.
• Your scientific expertise will be key as you guide the team in solving complex synthetic challenges, proposing alternative routes for difficult reactions, and staying updated on the latest advancements in chemistry.
• You'll be the clients primary point of contact, ensuring clear and effective communication, providing regular project updates, and addressing any client concerns with professionalism and technical insight.
• Accurate documentation will be crucial, and you will ensure that all experimental data, procedures, and results are thoroughly documented and compliant with internal and external audit standards.
• Managing project budgets and resources effectively will be a key part of your role, working closely with supply chain teams to ensure that materials and equipment are available to support the smooth execution of all projects.
• You will support in preparing new Requests for Information (RFI) for Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) and Fee for Service (FFS) projects as and when requested, contributing to the business development efforts.
• You will also identify training needs within your team, promoting continuous learning and development to keep your team at the cutting edge of scientific knowledge and technical skills.
• Ensuring lab safety will be one of your top priorities, as you enforce strict safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
• As a leader, you will play a critical role in recruitment, helping bring in new talent and build a strong, cohesive chemistry team to deliver exceptional results.
• Your ability to balance client relationships, scientific excellence, and project management will be key to your success as you contribute to the growth and reputation of the organisation.

Preferred candidate profile

• Masters/PhD/Post Doc in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in synthetic chemistry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a CRO or pharmaceutical company.
• Proven track record in managing complex chemistry projects from conception to delivery.
• Strong knowledge of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, purification techniques, and analytical methods.
• Experience working with clients, managing expectations, and delivering high-quality results.
• Excellent organisational, communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
