We build tools and services for new Infrastructure-as-a-Service technologies that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our mission is to give our customers best-in-class DevOps services to manage their code, build and deployments within OCI. We are looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion in building DevOps platforms for our customers. We want to make DevOps a pleasant experience for our customers

As a Principal software engineer, you will own driving software architecture for major components of Developer Services. You should be a distributed systems generalist, able to architect broad systems interactions, while being very hands-on, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and lower level system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

Qualifications & ExperienceThis role is ideally suited to someone with a good Bachelor s degree or Masters conversion in a software-related subject (or equivalent experience) and at least 8 years experience as a software engineer/developer.While we don t stipulate hard minimum requirements, a suitable baseline might include:

• BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of related work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years hands on experience in developing distributed, fault tolerant, scalable applications.
• Proficient in software development methodology with at least 3+ years coding experience in Java. Terraform knowledge is a bonus.
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python and proficient understanding of Continuous Integration and deployment and tools chain like GIT, Maven, Jenkins/Teamcity, etc.
• Solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, a sense of ownership and drive.
• Proven experience and knowledge around cloud infrastructure.
• Written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner to all audiences
• Self-motivated and proactive, able to learn quickly and apply new concepts

On a typical day, you will be working as part of a small, focused, agile team and could be doing one or more of the following:Programming, testing and operating software at the heart of OCI. You might be:

• Writing backend code in Java, Java script, React, Python
• Working with containerization and virtualization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Automating lifecycle operations for your project: build, test, health check, deploy, upgrade etc.
• Deploying and operating your software in datacenters across the globe.
• Analyzing, diagnosing and debugging issues across a full breadth of our stack.
• Debug, maintain and improve existing systems, with a focus on performance and reducing operational burden.
• Scaling our operations by building tooling and automation.

Participating in the software engineering community at Oracle and beyond. Maybe you will be:

• Discussing potential solutions to complex technical problems and building consensus among disparate teams.
• Designing and implementing exciting new features or services for our customers.

In addition to day-to-day responsibilities, all of our engineers participate in operating and supporting the product in production and take part in on-call rotation, typically every 5-7 weeks depending on team size.
