Family DescriptionApplied R&D (AR) consists of target-oriented research either with the goal of solving a particular problem / answering a specific question or for multi-discipline design, development, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems including maintenance support. Supplies techno-economic consulting to clients. AR work is characterised by its detailed and complex nature in order to systematically combine existing knowledge and practices to further developing and incrementally improving products, operational processes, and customer-specific feature development.

Subfamily DescriptionGeneral R&D Management (GRM) comprises the management of the engineering organisation which includes development and revision of new and existing products or services. Covers monitoring of different engineering dimensions and priority setting and conflict resolution between the different organisational dimensions (if any). Contains formulation of long-term objectives, implementation of policies, and monitoring of engineering budget and development schedule. Comprises optimisation of product delivery and involvement in patent search, technology surveillance, technology trends, and is main contributor in innovation management of the company.


ImpactImpact is short-term through individual and team contributions. Scope is primarily within own subject area in a function/unit. Actions and errors impact on program, project or function. Provides measurable input into new products, processes, standards or operational plans in support of the organisation's business strategies, with some impact on business unit/ function overall results.

Scope & ContributionIndividual Contributor: Operates autonomously in own subject area. Can analyze, develop and implement concepts and solutions as a subject matter expert. Increased awareness of and involvement outside of own subject area. Distills big picture. Makes decisions about and prioritizes own work. Managerial/Supervisory: Clear managerial responsibilities for people. Typically first level of solid line management. Interprets policies. Ensures existing plans are put into operation. Executes and/or oversees processes to meet customer needs. Responsible for analysis, design & development of policies, plans, programs.

InnovationCarries out specialised activities/projects according to general direction. Influences others to support decisions. Works mostly independently. Demonstrates success in multiple roles and is adaptable to manage complex changing business environments.

CommunicationCommunicates with parties within and outside of own job function and teams, and typically has responsibilities for communicating with parties external to the organisation, which may include customers or vendors.Works to influence others to accept job functions view/practices and agree/accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.Has cross-cultural knowledge and global mindset Requires ability to communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organisation. Knowledge & ExperienceManagement Experience / Achieved well-advanced skills of a specific professional discipline combining deep knowledge of theory and organisational practice or expertise. Recognised expert in their field (depth & breadth). Typically requires 5-8 years extensive relevant experience and/or a graduate / postgraduate equivalent degree.


As a Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers tasked with building a robust Cloud Native 5G Core (CSD, NPC) and evolve 3G and 4G products towards Cloud Native Architecture. You will work collaboratively with Architects, Product Owners, System Verification engineers to set goals for your team and guide them.

  • Manage a team of highly capable developers and testers
  • Own talent hiring, allocation and optimum utilization across the organization
  • Establishing goals & objectives for team and manages the team to ensure that goals are met
  • Lead & motivate technical teams, mentor, grow and enable each member to reach their full potential.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment where you need to discover as you move forward and still maintain control and manage to the committed goals
  • Identify areas of risk and proactively address before such becomes unmanageable
  • Responsible for leading large teams and product and its Architecture, Requirement analysis, Feature design based on cloud native principles and leading development of Microservices
  • Ownership of Product and SW Architecture at System component level
  • Hands-on knowledge on a broad array of cloud native technologies and operability concepts. Ability to comprehend complex technical problems and create pragmatic solutions.
  • High proficiency in Coding languages and development practices.

Required Skills for Internal Candidates

  • 15 years of experience in Telecommunications Networks domain
  • 9 years of experience with Agile frameworks and techniques such as Scrum, Kanban and Continuous Delivery
  • 5 years of experience in directly leading teams building Telecommunication Software products
  • Flexible and pragmatic about methods and processes, so as to be able to use own judgment to apply the appropriate model and approach that fits best with the context
  • Provide strong leadership and guidance to the team
  • Ability to provide a big picture vision to engineer and inspire them to achieve challenging targets
  • Servant leader who can enable self-organization in large cross-functional efforts, and how pull-based scheduling works in practice
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty, accepting that uncertainty is a fact of life when innovating, and manage uncertainty through a tight feedback loop rather than detailed upfront planning
  • Interprets critical internal or external business issues and develops innovative solutions that help to sustain competitive advantage.
  • Defines processes and standards.
  • Uses knowledge on how the job contributes to the corporate goals as well as knowledge of industry and competitive landscape to increase own effectiveness.
  • Influences strategic decisions within professional area that affect the performance of the subfunction (EG a subset of a function, typically consisting of several areas with independent budgets).
  • Solves highly complex or novel problems based on sophisticated analytical thought and complex judgment.
  • Independently develops concepts to set the professional direction of own organisational unit.
  • Acts as a senior subject matter expert, typically at a global or regional level, in many organisational units the most senior internal expert who serves as best practice / quality resource and is an acknowledged authority both within and outside own organisational unit.
  • Often leads functional teams or projects with considerable resource requirements, risk, and complexity, handles day-to-day staff management issues, including resource management and allocation of work.
