Job Description
- Cost Planning and Budgeting:
- Develop, implement, and manage cost allocation systems, ensuring that all business activities are properly costed.
- Work closely with departments (e.g., production, operations, and procurement) to establish accurate cost estimates for new projects or products.
- Prepare annual budgets and forecast future costs based on historical data and anticipated business activity.
- Cost Analysis:
- Perform cost analysis to identify cost variances and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Regularly analyze cost trends to identify areas for cost reduction and process improvements.
- Calculate and analyze the cost of goods sold (COGS) and other key cost drivers for products and services.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare cost-related reports for senior management and stakeholders, providing insights into cost trends and performance against budget.
- Present findings on cost performance and recommend actions to reduce expenses or optimize resource usage.
- Monitor and report on the profitability of projects, products, or services, suggesting necessary adjustments to pricing, processes, or strategy.
- Product Costing:
- Ensure accurate product costing by working with production, procurement, and sales teams.
- Develop and maintain standard costs for products, services, and activities, ensuring they reflect the most accurate and up-to-date information.
- Conduct regular product costing reviews and adjustments based on changes in material, labor, and overhead costs.
- Cost Control and Optimization:
- Implement and monitor cost control measures to ensure the business operates within its budget and achieves financial objectives.
- Identify inefficiencies or waste in operations and recommend methods for cost reduction.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., procurement, logistics, and operations) to drive cost-saving initiatives.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements related to costing and expenses.
- Review and enforce internal controls for cost-related processes to mitigate the risk of financial discrepancies.
- Coordinate with auditors to ensure accurate costing records and reports are maintained.
