Service Engineer - Electrical

Job Description:

• Educational Qualification: Diploma/ BE
• Work Experience (years): 4 to 6 years
• Fixed annual CTC: 6 lac to 9 lacs
• Variable Compensation: 1 Monthly CTC
• Department: Service- Electrical & Electronics
• Reporting to: AVP - Service

• Work Experience: 4 to 6 years of electrical and automation of Main Engine and Propulsion System.

Purpose of the particular role:

• The purpose of this role will be to work on Marine Automation & Control System including Engine, ZP, Clutch,BT and propulsion system
• The role requires work on the electrical, electronics, instrumentation & Automation system installed on Genset, Main Engine & propulsion for overhauls including troubleshooting & diagnostics to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction by delivering the desired results.
• This role develops in the field of mechanical and electrical marine components gradually, to gain holistic knowledge in the industry.

Challenges of the role:

• Adapting to changing and requirements priorities of Customers during a project on site. (example: scope changes, bar plan changes)
• Ever increasing Customer expectation in quality, velocity and cost from their service provider. Therefore we need to respond quickly, find solutions by coordinating internally or externally with technical experts.
• Finding a balance between optimizing parts and finding no shortfall when a project starts.
• Art of raising RED FLAGS - that affecting QVC has to be timely and proactively

• Internal: The candidate will have access to the Service Management team, Technical Leads, and Senior-most Management - Directors, Head of Departments.
• External: Customer or customer Reps - Including Foreign Nationalities - India / Abroad.

Key Results (What will I be accountable for?) and Activities:( What will I be accountable for?):

1) Pre and post interventions incl planning, Full-kitting and continual improvements:

• Pre Planning the job scope joint discussions with the Rig / vessel / installation team alongside Technical leads for preparations based on complete work expectations which could include (but not limited to)
• Demand parts available onboard for ensuring seamless job execution with QVC.
• Identifying the right tools, work instructions, selecting the appropriate checklist & modifying whenever it is required.
• Demonstrate and hand hold junior team members while job execution to expedite learning and upskilling process.
• Capture and work towards customer delight by capturing feedbacks, verbatims which could be used as case studies by marketing team
• Identifying training needs and learnings after each site for the team members and explaining the improvement areas (In continual improvement form) to the individuals and to Service manager which should be captured during the site debriefing.

2) Attend / Resolve / troubleshoot assigned jobs / breakdown on site / on remote end to end.

• Attending sites for Steering systems and propulsion systems and engine control system related troubleshooting.
• Able to troubleshoot and rectify issues related to electronic governors, microprocessor cards, ECM (Engine Control Module), genset and engine controllers, and AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator)
• Providing support, both on-site and remotely, to customers facing genset synchronization and/or shaft generator problems.
• Able to address the Customers problem statement independently including any interface with automation / DP issues.
• Load Management: Optimizing power distribution and load management to prevent overload and ensure stable operation of engines and gensets.
• In ECMS System: Sensor Fitting and related modifications; Cable Laying; Ethernet Cable etc. Read the Solution architecture & Validate the ECMS results when at Site. Troubleshooting of HW and SW & Customer satisfaction.

Knowledge/Skills/Behaviors - Must Have / Nice to Have (M) (N)

Knowledge (Functional and Non-Technical):

• Strong 4-6+ years of hands-on experience on Marine application electrical and Automation part - operation, troubleshooting, repair & maintenance.(M)
• Troubleshooting of electrical systems. LT and HT and Synchronization panels. Must have exposure to governor control systems and worked on 2.0 MW+ engines with electronic versions.(M)
• Worked on CAT engine ET and SIS, AVR steering control systems Control panel or other engine such Wartsila, Man and EMD engine control system.(M)
• Experience in power transformer installation / troubleshooting of switchgear and its control system from 220 V to 6.6 KV/11 KV will be an added advantage.(N)
• Programming of PLC systems, interface systems involving automation systems. (N)

• Good Communication in verbal and written English to be able to communicate information clearly and translate knowledge into a written report and on Customer requirements.(M)
