Consultant General Physician Role & Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities:

Outpatient Department (OPD) Consultations:

• Diagnose and treat common illnesses, injuries, and chronic conditions.
• Provide health education and preventive care during OPD visits.

Inpatient Department (IPD) Management

• Supervise and manage hospitalized patients, including admission and discharge processes.
• Coordinate with other specialists to ensure optimal patient care.
• Monitor the progress of patients and modify treatment plans as necessary.

Emergency and Critical Care Support:

• Attend to medical emergencies and stabilize patients.
• Collaborate with the emergency and critical care teams for intensive patient management.

Medical Procedures

• Perform minor procedures like suturing, IV cannulation, and wound care.
• Assist in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures when required.

Patient Care Coordination

• Act as a primary point of contact for patients, ensuring continuity of care.
• Coordinate referrals to specialists and follow up on diagnostic tests.

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention

• Conduct wellness checks, vaccinations, and health screenings.
• Promote lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of disease progression.

Administrative Duties

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in medical records.
• Participate in departmental meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

Teaching and Training

• Mentor and guide junior doctors, interns, and nursing staff.
• Conduct periodic training and workshops for medical teams.

Adherence to Hospital Policies

• Follow NABH and other accreditation standards in clinical practice.
• Comply with hospital infection control and safety protocols.

Community Engagement

• Participate in health camps and community outreach programs organized by the hospital.

Preferred candidate profile

• Education: MBBS with MD in General Medicine (or equivalent degree).
• Experience: Minimum 0-5 years in a similar role, including experience in OPD, IPD, and emergency care.
