Finance Controller

Role & responsibilities

1. Hands-On Financial Operations & Periodic Book Closures

• Actively oversee and participate in bookkeeping for Milaaps group of entities across India, US and Singapore.
• Strengthen the accounting and financial process, enhancing team efficiency
• Ensure completeness and accuracy in monthly book closures before the 5th of every month for all the entities.
• Prepare and review P&L statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow reports for external CFO review.
• Manage and report cash positions across all entities on timely basis.
• Perform and oversee user fund reconciliations (fundraiser funds not owned by the company).
• Handle multi-currency reconciliations (INR, USD, SGD).

2. Audits & Regulatory Filings

• Lead and coordinate annual statutory audits across regions: India, US and Singapore, working with respective entity auditors
• Ensure timely closure and filing of audits with all supporting reconciliations and schedules.
• Oversee and ensure timely compliance with monthly, periodic and annual regulatory filings:
• Monthly TDS and GST filings (India).
• Annual Income Tax returns and reconciliations across entities.
• Cross-border tax filings, including withholding tax and equalization levy.
• RBI compliance and related regulatory reporting
• Other similar filings and compliances across 3 regions

3. Interface with Government & Regulatory Bodies

• Handle queries and correspondence with government bodies.
• Ensure smooth communication and resolution of regulatory matters.

4. Team Management

• Lead and manage a team of 3 accountants:
• Assign tasks, review their work, and ensure deliverables meet deadlines.
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and ensure team development.
• Maintaining monthly balance sheet schedules, hygiene in books of accounts for all entities
• Enhance efficiency and implement tools/automation wherever required

5. Lending Book Management

• Oversee accounting for the lending subsidiary, including tracking loans, repayments, and preparing financial reports.

6. Financial Policies & Process Development

• Develop and implement finance policies to streamline operations and ensure strong internal controls.
• Optimize monthly and annual processes for efficiency.
• Periodic/Quarterly presentation of the state of finances to Founder Directors.

Preferred candidate profile

• Education: CA Inter qualified with 10 years experience / ICWA / CMA is mandatory. Qualified CA is preferred
• Experience:
• 10+ years of experience in accounting, audits, taxation, and team management.
• At least 3 years of direct experience working with a CFO.
• Experience managing multi-entity and multi-currency operations
• Proven ability to manage audits, regulatory filings, and communications with government officials.
• Ability to own and deliver outcomes with good integrity levels
• Technical Skills:
• Strong working experience with Zoho Books, QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel is a must.
• Expertise in book closures, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Past experience in automating accounting flows is a strong plus
• Solid understanding of India GST, TDS, RBI reporting, and cross-border taxation
• Hands-on leader: Willing to actively work on day-to-day tasks while managing and guiding the accounting team.
• Attention to detail and willingness to learn are non-negotiables.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Proactive, organized, and able to work under tight deadlines.
