Job Introduction:
Mechanical System Engineer / Geometrical Integration (MSE/GI)
MSE/GI is a critical technical role in product system engineering. The position is responsible for ensuring the geometrical integrity of mechanical systems throughout the product development lifecycle. This includes defining and managing mechanical interfaces, integrating subsystems, and aligning the overall system with customer requirements, production processes, and installation needs.
Major Responsibilities:
Define and manage mechanical system requirements and specifications, with a focus on geometrical integration.
Oversee the integration of subsystems into the overall system architecture, ensuring system compatibility and compliance with design requirements.
Collaborate with internal teams (Subprojects, Building Blocks, Product Function Groups) and customers to manage mechanical interfaces and alignment.
Develop and maintain essential system documentation, including Bill of Materials (BOM), assembly drawings, and customer installation drawings.
Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and workshops to ensure the system design is manufacturable, assembly-friendly, and aligned with customer requirements.
Manage the integration of subsystem BOMs into a unified system BOM.
Develop and communicate interface drawings to customers, including tolerance stack-ups at the system level.
Ensure the system meets critical design targets such as weight, centre of gravity (CoG), moments of inertia, and material specifications.
Lead the definition of the serviceability concept in collaboration with After Sales teams.
Participate in change management processes, evaluating mechanical system impacts of proposed changes.
Support the alignment of subsystems with internal and external teams to ensure successful project execution.
Knowledge and Education:
A bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field is mandatory.
A master s degree in mechanical engineering, System Engineering, or a related discipline is highly advantageous.
Work Experience:
At least 3-5 years of experience in mechanical system integration, product design, or similar engineering roles.
Experience in geometrical integration and managing interfaces at a system level is required.
Experience in the automotive, aerospace, or similar complex engineering fields is beneficial.
Familiarity with designing and managing systems with a focus on manufacturability and customer-specific requirements.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of mechanical system design, integration, and geometrical alignment.
Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and experience in 3D modelling.
Experience in managing and integrating Bill of Materials (BOM) at the system level.
Solid understanding of mechanical interfaces, tolerance stack-ups, and system-level integration.
Ability to balance competing design requirements such as weight, materials, and cost considerations.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills for coordinating across cross-functional teams and with customers.
Experience in conducting and leading design reviews, risk assessments, and change management processes.
Knowledge of industry standards for mechanical systems and geometrical integration.
Experience with FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and serviceability concepts.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think analytically under pressure.
