Derivative Business Operation Specialist/consultant

Position Overview:
The Derivative Business Operation Specialist is responsible for managing and overseeing the operational aspects of derivative transactions. This role involves working closely with trading desks, back-office teams, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth and efficient execution of derivative trades, including futures, options, swaps, and other financial instruments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial markets, derivative products, and operational processes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Trade Processing and Settlement:
- Oversee the end-to-end processing of derivative transactions, ensuring accurate and timely settlement.
- Reconcile trade discrepancies and resolve any issues with counterparties and brokers.
- Monitor trade confirmations and ensure they match the terms agreed upon by the trading desks.

2. Risk Management:
- Monitor and manage operational risks associated with derivative transactions.
- Implement and adhere to risk management procedures and controls.
- Collaborate with risk management teams to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.

3. Data Management and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all derivative transactions, including trade details, valuations, and settlements.
- Prepare and distribute regular reports on trading activities, positions, and P&L.
- Analyze data to identify trends and provide insights to senior management.

4. Client and Stakeholder Communication:
- Serve as a point of contact for clients, brokers, and other external parties regarding derivative transactions.
- Provide support to the trading desks by facilitating communication between different departments.
- Respond to inquiries and provide timely updates to stakeholders on trade status and issues.

5. System and Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
- Participate in system upgrades and testing to ensure the smooth integration of new technologies.
- Collaborate with IT and other departments to optimize systems and workflows.

6. Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all derivative transactions comply with relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Keep abreast of changes in regulations and industry standards, and update processes accordingly.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Education: Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. A Masters degree or professional qualifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-10 years of experience in derivative operations, financial markets, or a similar role.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of derivative products, financial markets, and operational processes. Familiarity with trading platforms and financial software.
- Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships.
