Job Description

The Head of Technology and Data will lead Janaagraha s technology and data strategy, ensuring the development, scaling, and governance of impactful digital solutions. This is a senior leadership position responsible for aligning the organization s technology and data vision with its mission to transform the quality of life in India s cities. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to foster collaboration across teams and with external stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership: Define and execute Janaagraha s technology and data strategy, aligning with organizational goals and mission.
Technology Innovation: Identify and implement cutting-edge technologies and platforms to enhance program outcomes and citizen engagement.
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of engineers, product managers, data analysts, testers and sysadmins, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Sometimes, will need to lead by doing, and dive into code, data and infrastructure tasks even though this is not the primary responsibility.
Data Governance and Insights: Oversee data strategy, ensuring data integrity, governance, and the effective use of analytics to drive decision-making and impact.
Project Oversight: Provide executive oversight for all technology and data initiatives, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to budget, and alignment with strategic objectives.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with internal program leaders and external stakeholders to co-create solutions that address urban challenges through technology and data.
Infrastructure and Security: Ensure robust IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and scalability of digital platforms.
Representation: Represent Janaagraha in relevant forums, building partnerships with technology and data communities, donors, and policymakers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
10+ years of overall experience, with at least 3 years managing software engineering teams.
Proven track record of delivering complex technology projects, ideally with experience in non-profit, government-tech or civic-tech domains
Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, product, data, and IT functions.
Good understanding of modern software development, data platforms, and cloud infrastructure.
Strong grasp of emerging technologies, including AI/ML and data analytics
Proven ability to build, lead, and manage high-performing engineering teams
