Staff Firmware Engineer

We have an exciting role of Staff Firmware Engineer for Firmware Platform testing role, at our Bangalore Location.

The role involves validation of Itrons energy meter firmware components at platform level which is built on top of embedded Linux platform. Itrons firmware runs on the platform that is designed to support networking infrastructure with capability of distributed intelligence. On top of this platform rest of the metering solution runs. Itron also supports many devices such as end points, Access points, Bridges etc. Base platform is common for all devices.

The engineer is responsible for:

1.Understanding new requirements and generating test cases

2.Automate using Python Shell Scripting and integrate them into Robot Framework for execution.

3.Debug and Troubleshoot of Firmware logs using various tools like Linux commands, Wireshark etc.

4.Hands-on Individual contribution on platform firmware with prime focus of Embedded Linux functionalities.

5.Understanding various Interfaces between firmware components/modules.

6.Firmware Upgrade/ Downgrade/Flashing Processes

The engineer will also be introduced to Microsofts Azure-DevOps tools processes and that involves creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for test execution and Git repos for source code storage.

The engineer is expected to take full ownership of a feature from test execution to bug reporting and log file analysis. The engineer should be extremely comfortable working on Linux systems and should be able to understand Linux OS concepts of Process Management, File System Management etc.

Itron maintains a state-of-the-art lab at our Bangalore facility which has Raspberry PIs connected to energy meters serially. The engineer will be trained to understand the nuances of the PI board and how to access the lab meters serially for firmware flashing and log extraction.
