This opportunity is with one of our clients, an international trading company specializing in ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Position: Junior Trader - Non-Ferrous Metals

Job Location : Mumbai

Job Summary:


The Junior Trader will support the Traders and Senior Traders to effectively manage the trading book(s) in profit creation, organization, reporting, deal negotiation, deal execution, risk management, policy conformance. The Junior Trader will also work independently to generate his/her own profitable business contributions, develop client relationships, and proactively communicate with the global trading team to propose and respond to opportunities for business development. He/She will simultaneously strive to develop his/her knowledge of the markets including main players (producers and consumers), competitors, global trade flows and trends, quality considerations, pricing mechanisms/indexes and trends, and relevant news.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

- Assist Traders/Senior Traders in the detection and analysis of trade opportunities, through the proficient use of Excel and other relevant systems.

- Assist Traders/Senior Traders in the preparation of presentations/reports for management.

- Support the Traders/Senior Traders in managing the business continuity and development of the global purchase, sale, marketing and risk management of book.

- Proper follow up of the counterparts assigned to his/her responsibility, communicating efficiently via the appropriate channels (phone, email, presentations, online calls, live meetings, etc.), while developing close interpersonal relationships to be considered a preferred counterpart to trade with.

- Participating as part of a team, communicating effectively, and collaborating with other team members (traders, operators, finance, internal ERP system reporting, controlling, management, etc.) always prioritizing the company's overall results over individual achievements.

- Diligent and proactive follow up trades' execution from booking until payment, communicating effectively with operations and other team members to maintain costs within budget and prevent/solve potential issues in delivery, shipping, packing, quality issues, payment delays, etc.

- Assist Trader/Senior Trader in ensuring that both physical and futures positions are within company risk limits.

- Assist Trader/Senior Trader in ensuring the credit limits for his/her clients are not exceeded

- Support to Trader/Senior Trader in the development of the book's annual forward planning process.

- Ensuring that trades in ERP system are entered correctly, so that actual P&L and physical and futures mark to market are accurately reflected, collaborating with operations and ERP/IT team as needed to identify and correct any errors.

- Communicating with the Trader/Senior Trader on any problems, concerns, risks, or unanticipated events that can or may adversely impact the profit/loss of the book (realized or unrealized) or exceed company limits or policy.

- Conducting business according to the company code of conduct and compliance policy; Immediately raising with top management any issues that did or may violate these rules with urgency once suspected or identified.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Economics, Logistics, or related field or a related subject.

- Minimum 3 years' experience in commodities logistics, trading, risk management.

- Advanced understanding of global geography, transporting shipments efficiently, Incoterms.

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

- Ability to learn new software.

- Attention to detail.

- Excellent time management and organizational skills.

- Strong leadership skills, communication skills, pro-active problem solver.

- Strong work ethic; ability to be flexible and work towards deadlines under pressure; excellent attention to detail.

- Fluency in English language essential; communication in other languages a plus.
