Sustainability Engineer Job Description

Job Summary:

The Sustainability Engineer is responsible for implementing sustainable design, construction, and operational strategies to achieve green building certifications such as IGBC, GRIHA, USGBC LEED, and WELL. They ensure compliance with sustainability standards, optimize energy efficiency, and promote environmentally responsible solutions in building projects.

Key Responsibilities:

✅ Green Building Certification & Compliance:

• Manage and coordinate projects seeking IGBC, GRIHA, LEED, and WELL certifications.
• Prepare and submit documentation for green building compliance.
• Work with architects, MEP engineers, and contractors to ensure sustainability requirements are met.

✅ Sustainable Design & Energy Efficiency:

• Perform energy modeling, daylight analysis, and thermal comfort assessments.
• Recommend sustainable materials and low-impact design solutions.
• Optimize HVAC, lighting, and water systems for energy efficiency and resource conservation.

✅ Environmental & Health Impact Assessments:

• Conduct life cycle assessments (LCA) and environmental impact studies.
• Implement WELL certification strategies for occupant health and wellness.
• Develop strategies for indoor air quality (IAQ), water efficiency, and waste management.

✅ Technical Analysis & Reporting:

• Prepare sustainability reports, energy audits, and carbon footprint analysis.
• Monitor building performance to ensure compliance with green building goals.
• Utilize software such as IES-VE, DesignBuilder, EnergyPlus, and AutoCAD/Revit for simulations and analysis.

✅ Stakeholder Coordination & Training:

• Work closely with clients, contractors, and consultants to integrate sustainability practices.
• Conduct training sessions on green building concepts and certification requirements.
• Stay updated on evolving sustainability regulations and best practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

🎓 Education:

• Bachelors or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

🌱 Certifications & Experience:

• IGBC AP, GRIHA CP, USGBC LEED AP/GA, and WELL AP preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in green building consulting, energy modeling, or sustainability engineering.

⚡ Skills & Competencies:

• Proficiency in Energy Modeling, CFD Analysis, and Building Performance Simulation.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE, NBC, ECBC, and global sustainability standards.
• Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.

Work Environment:

• Office-based with site visits as required.
• Collaboration with design teams, clients, and government bodies for approvals.
