Senior Instrumentation and Automation Engineer - EPC experience

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Instrumentation and Automation Engineer to join our Global Engineering Center Team in India. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience, including expertise in system controls, instrumentation, and automation, with a preference for those who have worked in EPC environments and international projects. This role involves managing and overseeing all technical aspects of instrumentation, automation design, and controls for water treatment systems, including Water Treatment Plants (WTP), Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), and Sewage Treatment Plants (STP).

Key Responsibilities

• Design & Technical Support: Lead the design and provide technical support for all hardware, software, instrumentation, and control elements in integrated systems for water treatment projects.
• P&ID Support: Assist in the preparation of P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) based on customer requirements.
• Documentation Creation: Create and support project documentation including HMI, PLC programming, power distribution, control/signal wiring, wireless technology, cabinet/panel design, BOM, and layout drawings.
• Instrumentation Specifications: Develop specifications for instrumentation based on process requirements and control schemes. Provide support in resolving technical issues across teams.
• Vendor Coordination: Work with external vendors to select and establish equipment component specifications, material take-offs, requisitions, and vendor orders. Ensure cost control and project schedule adherence.
• Independent and Team Collaboration: Manage tasks independently and work within interdisciplinary teams to resolve technical problems while maintaining cost control.
• Instrumentation Schedule and Drawings: Prepare and issue instrument schedules, I/O lists, alarm lists, interconnection wiring drawings, and termination drawings.
• Control and Panel Design: Prepare block diagrams, control room layout, instrument location plans, and DCS/SIS systems loop drawings. Design control panel architecture and write functional descriptions.
• Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure designs meet industry standards and customer specifications, and conduct quality control reviews to verify design integrity and safety.
• Project Management Collaboration: Work closely with the technical project manager to plan and execute projects on time and within the budgeted manhours.
• Commissioning Support: Attend FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) of control panels and PLC programming at supplier sites to ensure project requirements are met. Provide support during commissioning of projects.
• Cost Estimation & Budget Management: Collaborate with project teams to prepare cost estimates for instrumentation and automation components. Identify cost-saving opportunities where applicable.

Qualifications & Requirements

Formal Education

• Required: Bachelors degree in Instrumentation, Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), or a related field.
• Preferred: Postgraduate education or certifications in related engineering disciplines.

Knowledge & Experience

• Required: 10+ years of experience in system controls, instrumentation, and wiring, specifically in water and wastewater treatment systems.
• Preferred: Experience with wastewater, chemical processing, and oil & gas systems.
• Experience in PLC & control panel design, PLC and HMI programming, and knowledge of automation programmable controller hardware/software and AC drives.
• Experience with SCADA systems and in-depth knowledge of instrumentation design and detail engineering for WTP, STP, WWTP, and ETP systems.
• Preferred: Familiarity with industry standards and specifications in water treatment systems.

Technical/Skill Requirements

• Required: Expertise in instrumentation design, automation controls, and detail engineering in water treatment systems.
• Preferred: Knowledge of SCADA systems and experience with designing and programming PLC systems.
