Job Description
As Maintenance/DGM Manager, you will be a part of the plant leadership team at Gwalior, leading the engineering services function and managing projects related to productivity improvement, energy management, utility improvement, etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for preventive and breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting and upkeep of chemical process equipment like the Fat Splitting Plant, Fatty Acid Distillation Plant, and Mechanical Vapor Compressors
- Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical utilities such as compressors, boilers, chillers, diesel generators, transformers and ETP/STP systems
- Manage the upkeep of mechanical piping systems for process water, ETP sludge, oils and other by-products
- Maintain soap-making equipment, including saponification plants, kettles, heat exchangers, dryers and elevators
- Supervise toilet soap production setups, including plodders, roll mills, stampers, wrapping machines and palletisers
- Oversee allied equipment like blenders, mixers, batch vessels, hoppers, conveyors and dust collection systems
- Handle electrical setups, including HT lines, transformers, HT panels, DG sets and induction motors, ensuring their upkeep
- Plan and execute maintenance for electrical equipment to ensure uninterrupted production
- Monitor and optimize power and steam consumption with energy reduction initiatives
- Ensure proper functioning and calibration of instrumentation systems such as PLC-based SCADA systems, flow meters and weighing systems
- Oversee civil maintenance, including structural stability, road upkeep and building repairs
- Manage the maintenance budget and inventory control of consumables and spares
- Prepare Capex proposals for replacing old equipment, energy conservation and productivity improvements
- Lead Capex projects for capacity expansion, product diversification and shop floor efficiency
- Execute departmental activities with a focus on safety, cost control and timelines
- Coordinate with stakeholders including suppliers, contractors and statutory bodies to meet goals
- Liaise with local authorities like the Boiler Inspectorate and Electricity Board on departmental matters
- Manage contractors for maintenance, fabrication, and project activities, ensuring safety and compliance
- Ensure compliance with ISO, GMP, TPM and TQM systems within the department
Education:
- B.E in Mechanical or an equivalent degree from reputed institutes
- A qualification in Energy Management is desirable
Experience:
- Around 15 to 18 years of experience in a senior position like Plant Engineering Head with hands-on experience in managing the overall engineering department of a large FMCG manufacturing facility
- Experience in Maintenance/Engineering of Continuous Process Plants, Chemical Plants with maintenance of Soap, Liquid, Gel and Paste manufacturing machineries/equipment and related utilities
- Selection and sizing of process utilities equipment
- Energy reduction, IOT, Industry 4.0 related to manufacturing process and utilities
Skills:
- Should be proficient in handling a large engineering services team comprising of Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineers, Technicians and Contractors
- Maintenance budget planning, monitoring and control
- Excellent engineering/technical, maintenance and troubleshooting skills
- Sound knowledge of construction standards, NBC codes, IBR codes, ASTM/ASME and IS standards
- Costing of utilities steam, gas, electricity, compressed air, refrigeration and chilling etc.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills in managing internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work under critical situations and handle multiple tasks through a complex team
- Proficient in the use of MS Office especially Word, Excel and SAP etc.
