HVAC Project Planning Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Planning & Design:
• Plan and design HVAC systems for commercial, residential, and industrial projects, ensuring they meet performance, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness standards.
• Create detailed HVAC system layouts, load calculations, ductwork and piping designs, and equipment selection for both new construction and renovation projects.
• Develop HVAC system designs that comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
2. Project Coordination & Integration:
• Work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of HVAC systems into overall building designs.
• Manage the coordination of HVAC systems across various phases of construction, from initial planning to final commissioning, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, and project scope.
3. Cost Estimation & Budgeting:
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC systems, including material costs, labor, equipment, and other associated expenses.
• Assist in developing and managing HVAC project budgets, monitoring expenditures to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
4. System Sizing & Performance Optimization:
• Perform detailed calculations for heat loads, air distribution, and equipment sizing to ensure HVAC systems meet required specifications and performance standards.
• Ensure HVAC system designs are energy-efficient and optimized for the specific building type and usage.
5. Quality Control & Assurance:
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of HVAC systems to ensure they meet design specifications and industry standards.
• Conduct inspections and quality checks during installation to ensure compliance with approved designs and regulations.
6. Maintenance Planning & Troubleshooting:
• Plan and schedule routine inspections, maintenance, and servicing for HVAC systems to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
• Address and troubleshoot complex HVAC issues, providing effective solutions to reduce downtime and operational disruptions.
7. Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of HVAC system designs, revisions, approvals, and calculations.
• Prepare and present detailed progress reports and project updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
8. Compliance & Standards Adherence:
• Ensure all HVAC systems and designs comply with local building codes, energy efficiency standards, and environmental regulations.
• Stay informed about industry trends, evolving regulations, and best practices in HVAC planning and design.
9. Leadership & Mentorship:
• Lead project planning discussions, providing guidance to junior engineers and team members.
• Mentor and train junior engineers in HVAC design, project management, and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related field.
• Certification or training in HVAC design (e.g., LEED, ASHRAE, or equivalent) preferred.
• 3 to 8 years of experience in HVAC planning, design, and project management, with a focus on large-scale or complex projects.
• Strong understanding of HVAC systems, load calculations, energy efficiency, and applicable building codes.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, HAP, Trane TRACE).
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and client management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.

• Experience with advanced Building Management Systems (BMS) integration.
• Knowledge of sustainable, energy-efficient HVAC technologies and solutions.
