Job Description: Assistant Manager Safety (Substation & Transmission Line)

Role Overview:

Assistant Manager – Safety is responsible for ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards at construction, operation, and maintenance sites for substations and transmission lines. The role involves implementing and monitoring safety practices, training workers, and mitigating risks to ensure a safe working environment in line with organizational and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Safety Policy Implementation:
• Ensure adherence to safety policies, procedures, and practices at all project sites.
• Develop and update site-specific safety plans in coordination with project managers.
2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
• Conduct regular hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA) for substations and transmission lines.
• Implement corrective and preventive measures to mitigate risks.
3. Compliance and Audits:
• Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, IS standards).
• Conduct safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations, and report findings with actionable recommendations.
4. Training and Awareness:
• Organize and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and workers, focusing on high-risk activities such as working at heights and electrical safety.
• Promote a culture of safety through regular safety drills and awareness campaigns.
5. Incident Reporting and Investigation:
• Oversee the reporting and investigation of near misses, incidents, and accidents.
• Prepare detailed reports and suggest measures to prevent recurrence.
6. Emergency Preparedness:
• Develop and test emergency response plans for construction and operational sites.
• Ensure the availability and functionality of firefighting and safety equipment.
7. Coordination and Liaison:
• Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure safety standards are upheld.
• Act as a point of contact for safety-related issues and audits.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil preferred) or a related field.
• Diploma/Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
• Experience:
• 5-8 years of experience in HSE roles within the power transmission industry, including substations and transmission line projects.
• Familiarity with safety standards, electrical safety, and working at heights.
• Skills:
• Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and practices in the power sector.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and training skills.
• Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
