Application Design Engineer - Railway Signalling

Technical Capability:

• Lead and manage railway signalling design works from inception to commission ensuring adherence to project timeline.
• Provide technical guidance and support for all application engineering design deliverables to ensure smooth installation, testing and commissioning activities.
• Understand technical documentation, including system requirements, drawings, reports, and communicate it to the team members.
• Ensure the engineering deliverables meet safety, compliance, and quality standards.

Team Management:

• Plan, lead and manage a team of engineers working on railway signalling application engineering design deliverables.
• Allocate tasks based on skill sets and project requirements.
• Ensure team members have the resources and training they need to succeed.

Project Coordination:

• Oversee the application engineering aspect of signalling projects from inception to commissioning.
• Ensure alignment with project timelines, scope, and objectives.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the assigned activity.

Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:

• Address technical issues or design gaps during project execution.
• Support the team in troubleshooting and resolving site issues during FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) phases.

Collaboration with Other Teams:

• Work closely with other departments (e.g., wiring, sales, operations, testing & commissioning teams) to ensure seamless system integration and deployment.
• Coordinate with external stakeholders, as needed, to ensure all technical requirements are met.

Quality Assurance:

• Ensure that the design deliverables meet relevant practices and standards.
• Oversee processes for each stage of the design, verification and review activities.

Reporting and Documentation:

• Maintain accurate documentation of design progress, technical specifications, and any changes.
• Provide regular updates to the reporting manager and stakeholders on project status, as well as any issues or risks.

Resource Management:

• Provide mentorship, guidance and technical support to team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and excellence.
• Monitor the design progress of the engineering team and ensure effective design deliveries.
• Ensure efficient utilization of resources (personnel, equipment, tools).

Risk Management:

• Identify potential technical risks in the project and develop mitigation strategies.
• Monitor the design's progress to ensure issues are addressed before they escalate.

Point of Contact:

• As a team leader serve as the main technical point of contact for design / verification.
• Clarify customer requirements and ensure that the final solution aligns with customer expectations.

Continuous Improvement:

• Encourage and implement continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
• Stay updated with the latest developments within the organization and best practices.

Qualification:

• Bachelors degree or Diploma in Electrical and Electronics engineering.
• Knowledge of RAMS and CENELEC standards is highly desirable.
• Strong proficiency in computer systems, software, and general technical literacy.

Skills requirement of a Team Leader

• Hands on experience in railway signalling application engineering, including design, verification and review activities.
• Proficient in application engineering design process and practices.
• Minimum of 10 to 12 years of experience in railway signalling design engineering, with at least 2 to 3 years of experience in leading and managing a team
• Ability to quickly grasp new concepts, understanding existing designs, and learn systems with minimal support.
• In-depth technical knowledge of railway signalling systems, especially interlocking and relevant trackside equipment subsystems.
• Experience in reading and interpreting technical requirements to generate design documentation.
• Strong communication skills to interface effectively with different departments.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
• Excellent understanding of document and design control processes.
