Job Summary:.
The Gallery Head will oversee all aspects of the gallery's operations, including curatorial direction, exhibitions, and overall management of the gallery space.
This position will require strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of contemporary and historical art, and a passion for fostering relationships with artists, collectors, and the broader community.
The Gallery Head will be responsible for the strategic vision of the gallery and its reputation within the art world.
Key Responsibilities:.
Strategic Direction:.
- Develop and execute the gallery's artistic vision, programming, and strategic plan.
- Identify and establish relationships with artists and collectors to build the gallery's reputation.
- Curate exhibitions that reflect the gallery's mission, maintaining a high standard of quality and innovation.
Gallery Operations:.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including logistics, installations, and managing gallery staff.
- Manage the gallery's budget, ensuring financial sustainability, tracking expenditures, and meeting revenue targets.
- Develop and implement marketing and promotional strategies for exhibitions and events.
Team Leadership:.
- Lead, manage, and mentor the gallery staff, including curators, sales personnel, and administrative team.
- Foster a collaborative and creative working environment that encourages innovation.
Artist Relations:.
- Maintain strong relationships with current and potential artists, ensuring clear communication and fostering a positive gallery experience.
- Negotiate contracts with artists and other collaborators, managing terms and agreements.
Sales and Client Relationships:.
- Develop strategies to increase gallery sales, working closely with collectors, buyers, and art consultants.
- Act as the primary point of contact for high-value clients, collectors, and potential partners.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the art world, including museums, art fairs, and cultural institutions.
Exhibition Management:.
- Plan, organize, and manage exhibition openings, events, and private viewings.
- Coordinate logistics such as transportation, installation, and display of artworks.
- Ensure that all artworks are presented professionally and are protected during exhibitions.
Requirements:.
Education:.
- Bachelor's degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Experience:.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a gallery, museum, or art-related environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of curating successful exhibitions and managing gallery operations.
Skills:.
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
In-depth knowledge of the art market and trends in contemporary and historical art.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Financial management and budgeting experience.
