About the Job
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of databases, managing and optimizing our database systems, and assisting in the design and implementation of new solutions. You will work with various stakeholders to ensure the databases are aligned with business needs, and that data is accessible and protected.
Responsibilities:
Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS), ensuring high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of databases.
Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize database performance, implementing improvements to reduce downtime and increase efficiency.
Backup & Recovery: Develop and execute backup strategies to protect database integrity and implement disaster recovery solutions.
Security Management: Ensure proper security measures, including data encryption, access control, and auditing, to protect sensitive information.
Data Integrity: Implement database consistency and validation rules, ensuring data is accurate and reliable.
Troubleshooting: Provide proactive troubleshooting and performance analysis, quickly resolving database-related issues.
Collaboration: Work with development and systems teams to design, implement, and optimize database-driven applications and solutions.
Database Design: Assist in designing database structures, schema, and procedures to meet application requirements.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for all database configurations, processes, and procedures.
Compliance: Ensure databases comply with legal, regulatory, and organizational data protection policies.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role.
Expertise in database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
Proficiency in SQL and database query optimization.
Strong understanding of database security, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Experience with database performance tuning and problem-solving.
Familiarity with cloud databases and services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL).
Knowledge of scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification(s) in Database Administration (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, AWS, etc.).
Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
Understanding of DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes.
Familiarity with data warehousing and ETL processes.
Experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate, SolarWinds, New Relic).
Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to troubleshoot complex database issues effectively.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
