Introduction to team
Our Expedia Product & Technology division builds innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A unified, singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences for the traveler and our partners that drive loyalty and customer satisfaction.
In this position, you will design and implement the systems that will help prevent bad experiences for travelers. You will develop distributed systems that scale up to millions of transactions. The solutions you build will have a direct impact on the company s bottom line and day to day operations.
In this role, you will:
  • Collaborate with team members to co-develop and solve problems
  • Take advantage of opportunities to build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area
  • Rapidly develop next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance systems
  • Understand the importance of system and technology integration and the basic features and facilities involved in the integration process
  • Develop and test several standard forms of technology non-routine software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements
  • Effectively applies knowledge of software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions
  • Effectively applies knowledge of databases and database design principles to solve data requirements
  • Effectively uses the understanding of software frameworks and how to leverage them to write simpler code
  • Leads/clarifies code evolution in code reviews
  • Brings together different stakeholders with varied perspectives to develop solutions to issues, and contributes own suggestions
  • Thinks holistically to identify opportunities around policies/ processes to increase efficiency across organizational boundaries
  • Assists with a whole systems approach to analyzing issues by ensuring all components (structure, people, process and technology) are identified and accounted for
  • Identifies areas of inefficiency in code or systems operation and offer suggestions for improvements
  • Compiles and reports on major operational or technical initiatives (like RCAs) to larger groups, whether via written or oral means
  • Continually seeks new technical skills in an engineering area
  • Shares new skills and knowledge with team to increase effectiveness
  • Think broadly and understand how, why and when policies/processes are standardized and when they differ across the organization
  • Apply formal training methods to current workload. You feel comfortable challenging authority/the status quo
  • Report clearly on current work status. You ask challenging questions when empowered to do so
Experience and qualifications:
  • 2-3 years Software Development work experience using Java, Spring, Rest APIs and similar technologies
  • Excellent knowledge of OOPS Concepts, Software Design Principles, Design Patterns, and Best Practices
  • Developed software in at least 2-3 different languages like Java (must have), Kotlin, Python etc.
  • Developed at least 4-5 complex and scalable software projects/product in production environments
  • In-depth knowledge of developing with the Spring Boot framework and its modules.
  • Good experience of RESTful API development and integration.
  • Proficient in working with databases and writing Complex SQL queries.
  • Proficient in developing software using Microservices Architecture
  • Experience of designing, developing and operating software on cloud platforms like AWS (preferable) and/or GCP.
  • Experience of working with No-SQL Databases like MySQL
  • Experience of working with Message Driven Technologies especially Kafka
  • Knowledge and Experience on UI Technologies (like React.js), ETL techniques and frameworks is a plus
  • Excellent troubleshooting, monitoring, and debugging Skills
  • Understands how projects/teams interact with other teams
  • Understands and designs moderately complex systems
  • Tests and monitors code at the project level
  • Understands testing and monitoring tools
  • Tests, debugs, and fixes issues within established SLAs
  • Designs easily testable and observable software
  • Understands how teams goals fit a business need
  • Identifies business problems at the project level and provides solutions
  • Knowledge of version control systems, preferably Git.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
